What oil do all you guys use?
Just curious, i've been using valvoline straight 40 and have had people telling me I should use a multiweight oil like a 10/40 or 15/40 and that I should try a diesel oil like Rotella T b/c it has more zincsomethingorother in it that helps lubricate better, so I was just curious to see what everyone here was using. Is there anything wrong with using the straight weight 40, they were saying it's bad to have it that thick for startup when the engine is cold, but I ran it for 2 years and spray'd the **** out of it and when I pulled the motor apart it looked brand new, the bearings all still had the coating on 'em and everything, needless to say we went ahead and reused all the bearings since they were like brand new! That being said, it makes me scared to stray away from it since the motor came apart lookin beautiful, but figured i'd see what you guys think.

I was wondering the same thing. Spending 60-70 bucks for a oil change is getting old, especially if you are changing it like you should with the juice.
I run the rotella in my truck, and have been thinking about switching to the synthetic rotella in the T/A.

I haven't run synthetic in the car in over 4 years, it's a waste of money, I change it way too often with as much as I spray. Usually cost me $20 or less for my oil change, filter and oil included, can do 4 for the price of one with synthetic.

I've been running castrol 20-50 since the motor went together, 3 years ago and over 200 passes, and it's still popping off new personal best's (went 9.53 @ 142.6 today)
I have a bunch of the 15-40 rotella to try, just using up what I had left for castrol.
Chances are, with me taking next season off I'll have the motor apart and see what it looks like in there, if everything looks good, I'm probably gonna stick with the castrol, if not then I'll try something else, the rotella will probably get tried, either that or 20-50 valvoline VR-1
I'm like you Devon, I change the oil after every track trip, wether I make one run or 10. Stuff usually comes out looking like new, still gold in color and whatnot, so that being said I don't know how bad anything could really look. Magnet has never really had anything on it other then the typical light dust on it, but that's probably more from startup then anything I think.
Next time the motor is apart, I'm gonna look at installing the oil squirters that katech came out with that spray oil at the back of the pistons, probably gonna add an accusump to the thing too while I am at it, cheap insurance for the protection that both offer.

if you spray you should chage the oil more frequently as it brakes down faster.
I am gonna try the rotella next time out at the track, as I change the oil after every track day which hasn't been very many recently. If I don't like that then the VR1 is going back in.

Yes, cuz you get a lot of fuel in ur oil when you spray, i'm a little overly **** and change it before every race weekend that i'm spraying big, just a personal preference of mine, better safe than sorry, that's why I don't use synthetic, i'd put myself in the poor house, haha!

Same reason I use the regular castrol. I figure if I'm gonna change it every track trip, why bother with expensive synthetic or any of that.
Plus, I run a breather system, so the engine's vented, and this way I can guarintee I'm getting the contaminents out. I always change the oil when it's hot too.
I'll start the beast and warm her up before I pull the train plug every time. This way all the engine's contaminents are in the oil (moisture, etc) and I get it out of the motor.
Breather filter's getting a plastic baggie and a rubber band on it after this last change though cause the car's going into hibernation for a while

Straight weight, haven't used that for a few decades. I did hold off as long as possible though, as I was confussed about how an oil can do both. Protect like a heavier oil but flow like a light weight when cold. I still don't like the way 10-30 looks when up to running temp for summer abuse time. Looks damn thin to me. Then again, what do I know. Not looking for arguements, I know this topic is like religion and politics, we all have are views.
