Default How big is safe for nitrous on a Iron Block??

Some say a 409ci Iron is the biggest you want to go for a huge shot of nitrous.. What do you guys say? I would like to be able to spin the car up to 6500rpm, but if 6krpm is going to be the max for a huge motor then so be it..

I'd say you can spray a 427 as long as the pistons and sleeves are ready for it...

Why am I worrying about the sleeves on a iron block?

I plan on testing to see how much I can throw at my new 408 when it's done. Figure with a perfect fuel system, and extremely conservative timing, I can throw 400 on it.

I would not bore more than .030 over for big shots Vince. Fuel delivery and tuning are the keys. You can run a 500-shot if you get it set up right. Don't expect to run a stock fuel system ot 28 degrees of timing though

Todd I have upgraded my fuel system and I should be good up to 750rwhp right now.. I plan to add a little more just so I have that safety net. When I really think about it I really do not need anything more than 650rwhp to do what I want to do, but you always have that special guy coming from Texas or where ever that requires you to release that second stage on them..

Just a FYI.. This is not just about nitrous. It is about the overall durability of the iron block.. You could just as easily put this in the FI section.

do an independant low pressure fuel system... direct port. or you are going to have tuning nightmares...

Im running a NOS Pro Race Fogger System which is normally good for 300-600 hp. But I went with NOSzels instead of regulare foggers... i run a Jaz Fuel Cell up front, Holley Black Pump and Aeromotive Regulator... just adjust the fuel pressure to 6psi for what type of jets ur running and go from there... gravey.

My buddy runs same setup but with regular foggers on his LT1 355, 250 shot all the time... no probs!

Vince, are you still running stock injectors? If so, time to change them to at least 36'ers for N/A and the nitrous. Also, I do not think your intank pump is going to be enough. To be safe I would also install an inline pump as well. The guys here running over 600 rwhp were losing pressure with the Walbro alone, most install a BBK inline for safety. I can almost promise that pump isn't going to handle anything over 650 rwhp.

Like Todd said, block thickness, fuel delivery, and TUNING are going to the key. With everything in-line, you should have no problems spraying a 350 shot SAFELY. With a 409 motor making ~500 rwhp, anything over a 350 shot would just be ignorant IMO.

Get off the damn internet and get this motor started

I used the new Crane duals on my new Absolute heads and no float at 6500 rpm with .600 lift.

I would love to go boost, but after reading all of you guys woes Bos.. I think I better stick to something less complicated.. Even though I am on my 2nd NA motor I still think I would have spent more money if I had went the FI route..
