New build: project deep 9's w/ a 346!
Hey guys trying to get some info on a few loose ends when it comes to the converter, the build is going as followed..
LME built 346 - callies rods, wiseco pistons, custom nitrous rings (gapped for a 300shot) stock crank, ARP studded up top and bottom.
Greg good ls6 heads (hollow valves) w/ patriot extreme springs and titanium retainers.
Greg good victor jr. with acufab 4 barrel TB on top of a 300 plate setup
Comp R lifters, crane 1.8 rockers
Custom grind (patick g/EPS lobes) mid 230's with a big split/ mid .600's 112+4
Compression will be as hi as I can get it without coming into p/v clearence.
Moser 9in. 35 spline 3.90 gear w/ locker
Full bmr/qa1 suspension
MT 28in. x 10 slicks and skinies on prostars
performabuilt TH400
Full weight is around 3350-3400
The question I'm running into since Iv never been a big auto guy is what converter to run for that big of spray?
I'll be shifting around 7000-7200 rpm range wanting to leave off the foot brake around 3k-3.5k range.. Looking for a tight converter in the 9in. range.
The car will still be street driven ocassionally.
Any real world results and suggestions on the converter stall speed and brand/type would greatly be appreciated..
Thanx
John

sounds like a cool build with a good goal
I feel the weight will need to be lower as Baked said and he would know as he has been there.
7000-7200 with a Vic intake a 4150 TB sounds low IMO
converter : big HP stuff we have had good luck with UCC, Chance and Yank
let us know if you need anything
good luck!

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! as for right now, Im still putting a closet full of parts together before it's actaully done so the shift points and weight I wont know for sure until the engine is finished, and I get the cage and transmission in the car.. Those are just a rough estimate.
last time I weighed the car it was 3550 at FULL weight with me in it (no weight removal whatsoever, power everything,t-tops,ect.) So Im being modest and saying I should ATLEAST be able to get another 200 lbs out of it given the fact that I still have to put a cage in it. Wich is going to add a considerable amount of weight.
Im shooting for atleast 800 at the back tires. I have a few buddies that have gone mid-high 9's in their cars at around 3400 with 250 shots on fast intakes with 4l60's.
Houston raceway park is a verry fast track if weather permits..
As far as converters go, what stall speed would I be looking at to be able to foot brake it up to 3-3500rpm without killing too much mph in a setup like this??

Any reason why you want to launch it on the footbrake instead of a transbrake? I think you might have an issue getting a tight nitrous converter up to 3500rpm without pushing through the brakes.

ya, my buddy uriel ran consistant 9.7-9.8's and won the clash back a few years ago with stock cubes, 250 shot, right around 3300 lbs.
Wasnt putting anywhere near 800 at the wheels tho.
I will be leaving OFF the footbrake, or the T-brake around 3500-3600.. Talked to a few different converter companys so far and calling circle D tomorrow.
Will be running a Rossler TH400.

Just curious how your going to get to 800rwhp with a 300 hit.. i'm making 449rwhp with my 346ci motor na through a 4L80E with the verter locked. This is with a Trex cam (there might be a little bit left there), 11-1cr, Super Vic, Dominator tb necked to a 4150 plate, 12 bolt with 4.56, EWP, 1 3/4 stepped 1 7/8 HVMC headers.. I am also planing on hitting mine with a 300 hit..
I'm not trying to say it can't happen, just if you do it through a TH400, that's impressive..

It's a secret!! lol juust kidding,
nano and e85 on a 12:5-12:8 CR motor I will probly have to step up to a moderatly bigger cam then what we originally spec'd out but no doubt I will get there.. Nitrous loves compression!
Just because a motor makes lets say 480rwhp on motor dosnt mean it takes a 320 shot to make 800. Hell I doubt I even need a 300 to get there. Im just building everything around that amount, so everything is capable of supporting that big of shot if I need it.. kinda like a safety margain. lol Weight and converter are the determining factor on what it will actually run with that given power. I get the weight down like baker earlier posted and get the converter on the money and I have a real good guess what she'll run.
BTW, a TH400 made by Rossler is not any ordinary 400.. was planning on having performabuilt make one until talking with carl. Not saying performabiult dosnt make good trannys, I just feel more secure with carl.. That's a dude that knows his ****!

Yeah, it kinda does mean you are running a 320 shot if you make 480 on motor and want to hit 800 to the wheels. Regardless of what pills are in it. However, with an non locking convertor, hp numbers are really kind of a non issue. The track times will tell you where you're at. Sounds like you have a good build going. Best of luck to you

with a stock bottom end(cam only) and a 60-e and 9 inch with 3.9s i made 360 on motor and had 200 pills in it it made 590 and went 6.3s leavin on 1 kit...it would of been a high 9 on a clean pass even faster if i left on everything...new motor made 425 on motor and on a 125 hit it went a 9.9 at 136...im about to hit it with 250-300...im shooting for somewhere near the current record but i dont think ill get there with an 80-e and 3.55 gears
