Default Anyone Running a wet kit on E85?

Guys I need a little help, I'm Running a stock 5.3 with a high flowing intake and exhaust system. I'm looking into running the Flex fuel motor on E85 and tapping into the fuel rail for the Nitrous supply. Pump system should support engine and nitrous shot up to 250. Reason I was thinking of using the E85 for both engine and Nitrous is that it burns colder and usually has a higher octane rating than race fuel. I tried looking through all the threads but I haven't seen anyone running the same set-up I want to. Can anyone chime in with possible jet sizing for my N.O.S. Fogger nozzle @ 100, 125, 150? I understand the usual amount of timing to pull per 50hp shot but how much of a difference will the E85 make, I'd rather run a tad rich and retarded for the first pull until I can see the AFR and can adjust from there. Any help is appreciated! Does this look do-able or a dream?

i did last year for a while...but since mine went back to full time daily driving,i switched back to gasoline as the cost per mile favors gasoline right now...

anyhoo,my nx jetting for a 150 shot went from 62n-31f on gasoline to 62n-38f on e85...
afr's landed in the low 12,s...

timing stayed the same, but since mine is higher than normal on spray to begin with i only watched afr mostly...

loved the stuff, next motor will be about 12-13.1 compression and e85...

I converted my friend's 2003 Z06 to E85. He runs a wet 150 shot with success. Here is a chart I have for E85, taken from a previous thread:

Nitro Dave's spray bar with E85
HP N2O E85
100 57 40
150 70 45
200 82 52
250 88 56

If you are getting your E85 for the kit off the stock fuel rail, start with a smaller size shot (100) and go from there....Good luck with it.

Thanks for the advice, I saw that thread but What I have been struggling to find is a timing pull. The generic is pulling 2* for every 50hp shot I was just wondering if being on E85 I should start off at 2-3* and work my way back to 0* pulled or should I not risk it and just stick with the 2-3? Same with plugs...Instead of running 2 ranges colder should I run only one range due to the cooler property of E85... Grant@NitroDaves any input?
(BTW just saw the GM truck nitrous set-up and it looks very well engineered..I know what I'm saving up for next)

You have the right Idea on the timing sir. Pull it out and if the plug says its safe slowly add it back in.

Also the difference is basically a jetting change. But you also want to verify on the larger shots that the kit you have can handle the fuel requirements for e85. Even if the kit can handle say a 200 shot with gasoline, it may not have the flowing capability to do it with e85.

Excellent, Thanks NX. THANK YOU! for affirming my timing woes! But What about the plugs?
I'm starting to think running gas is much easier but I'm on the fence thinking E-85's safer because of the octane rating.

To add to what has already been said you need to varify the fuel solenoid you have will handle the E85.

Yes running regular gas is much easier as its not demanding as much fuel supply. As for the timing get your base line to where it needs to be and then use the standard 2 per 50 to remove the timing for nitrous. That should get you close. Then you need to varify the results on the plugs.

I can tell you what plug you need to start with. Tell me your set up.

What motor?
Compression?
Power?
heads?
How much are you planing to spray?

I think without a tune you would be fine on a 100 shot through your nozzle. A good idea would be to datalog if you can to verify that the timing has not been advanced.

Keep a good eye on the plugs and you will be plenty safe.

BTW that solenoid is compatible with e85.

Also remember that reading plugs with e85 is different than reading plugs on unleaded gas. PLugs burning e85 will look a lot "cleaner" than normal which can lead to false readings. A good wideband and a set of DET-cans is much more accurate for the avarage car-guy to use to tune. Also take into consideration that although e85 requires more fuel, it likes leaner AFRs (when measured on a gasonline (or straight Lamda) calibrated Wideband).

Thanks for all of the help guys. Looks like its time to run the wires for the bottle warmer and plug in HP Tuners and start tuning. Appreciate the responses!
