Default ls1 ring gap for 150 shot

hello all... im in process of rebuilding a ls1, it has stock bore and pistons, has been honed for new rings. top ring is showing .025, bottom ring is showing 0.27... is this too loose or will it be ok ? the motor will see a 150 shot later down the road but will be mostly street driven. thanks too all!!!!

I did mine at that spec, but a little looser on nitrous from what I understand isn't a bad thing. I don't know what they consider mild nitrous. Me personally am going to use a 100shot. Hopefully someone with more experience can chime in.

I take it you didn't get file fits after it was honed? Just bought stock replacements? What year is the block?

You had I honed? Did you check the cylinder bore to see how much they took off?

Your ring gap is dependent on the type of piston you're using. Hyper or forged. Check with your piston manufacturer to see what they recommend. If you're thinking about spraying, you might want to put in some stronger rings.

Since when? Ring gap depends on heat applied to rings and the force because they expand as they heat up. At least that was my understanding. I've never ordered rings and had them say ones for hyper or ones for forged.

These are the things to consider......
The machine shop that honed the block doesn't care what your doing for rings
and their gaps. They are only concerned with straightening out the bore
(minimizing taper from top to bottom) and establishing cross hatch.
The .025/.027 gaps are a tad wide but not at all rediculous.
Saying it may see 150 later can and often always turns into 250. Trust me I
know juice and if a little is good....more is better.....
Those gaps will work fine for you.

That's more than enough. I was told by one of the big ring manufacturers that .011" is about the tightest you would want on the oil rings, but .025" will be just fine. There isn't much heat that far down the piston.

hyper pistons retain more heat at the top of the piston, hence they recommend wider gaps than a forged piston.
