Default How much do you backhalf?

Im just trying to compare what us nitrous guys are backhalfing. I know you suppose to backhalf somewhere around 30mph. My car is 94 camaro with th400 and chance converter and 12 bolt with 4.10s and weighs about 3350 with driver. Im hitting it with 400, so its around 800-850 hp. I only backhalf about 22mph(on motor and nitrous) Im just trying figure if Im on par with everyone else or if its killing me. I wanted to compare weight, trans, converter, shot size and est power level.

If your only gaining 22mph on the backhalf and you're shooting a true 400 shot your converter is screaming NO right about now because it's loooooooose.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that the converter was built for a lot less nitrous than what you're shooting now? What size jet?

.

I spray less and pick up more ~40 mph, but a completely different animal.
Is this a new combo or dead nuts dialed in??
Do you have a data recorder to see what's truly happening??
Could your timing be retarded??
Did you compare the weight of the bottle before & after every pass??
It could be many things killing your HP??

This^^^. Your converter slip is probably terrible. I would definitely look at pulling converter and sending it back to have it restalled for your combo. I would say a setup like you have should backhalf 27-30 mph or so. I see a yank SS3600 in your sig and I can tell you that a converter with the STR the SS series has is going to slip way too much with that big of a hit. if that is what you have send it back to yank to have it tailored to your combo and you should improve a bunch.

Look at his sig again. The ss3600 was his first set-up. He has a pi3600 now.

its a chance converter, if anything its too tight, we plan to change gears then log rpm/speed through a run. the 4.10/converter i believe to both be hurting me, but i was trying to compare to others.

Don't feel bad, I was tricked also!

22mph though? What jet size are you spraying fuel and nitrous and what fuel pressure? Timing, and fuel running?

What's the rest of the combo so we can get a gauge for what it should run?

If it's too tight it will drop too much rpm on the shift and never recover also killing your backhalf.

You don't need anymore gear.

Nitrous wants a lower(numerical) gear so it can pull and utilize the torque it makes. A tighter gear will just make it harder to get it off the starting line.

Honestly if it was mine I'd have a 3.73 or a 3.90 in it. If it's a bolt together converter you should be able to change the pump and stator yourself to loosen it.

At 3,300 lbs. 23 to 25 MPH on motor and 28 to 30 MPH on a 125 HP shot of Nitrous. Video in sig is Nitrous runs that will lead you to NA videos as well. I hope this helps!

I would take that ET and MPH all the time. If the 60 foot time was down in the low 1.30's the car would be in the 30's with the MPH in the 140 range. I not sure he has any real problems of course I could be missing something.

Our car weighs in at 3700 lb...our best is 5.76 @123 1/8th and 8.95 @154 in the 1/4.
So we are at 31+ mph back half. oh! best 60' = 1.319.

converter too tight
I should have read the entire thread before I made my second post. I caught that you are feeding your car with a 400 shot of nitrous with an estimated 800 to 850 horsepower with the power adder. If you are using a 2 stage nitrous setup what is the amount of nitrous you are using on the first stage and then the amount of nitrous you on using on the second stage?

I have to ask what the ET and MPH is on your car with no power adder in the 60 ft, 1/8 and 1/4? The nitrous MPH you posted does seem low for a 400 horsepower shot of nitrous. Did I read correctly that you car weighs in at 3,200 lbs.

I would think the OP's are correct in saying that the extra power of the nitrous is blowing through the converter once the car is shifted into drive. Your MPH of 115 is strong in the 1/8 mile. The reduced efficiency of the converter in high gear gets my vote. Is there any way the transmission could be slipping?
