Default Plug reading help...pics inside

Ok guys first off I'm a noob at proper plug reading. so to start off the first pic is of a N/A Plug that has been run in the car for a while. It's a NGK TR6. As you can tell from the pic there is a prominent white line on the strap, is this the timing mark?

2) does this look like too much timing for N/A?

3) When reading the timing mark is closer to the base ring "more" and closer to the tip "less"?

The second plug is a NGK BR7EF gapped .030" This plug was put in at staging, pulled in burnout, made a hit and shut it off thru the traps. This was on a 100 shot on 93 octane with 25 degrees timing (pulling 6 from N/A tune) Fuel pressure was 6# flowing. The WOT fuel ring looks really close to me, but not sure about the strap, does it look good? Too hot a plug? Too much timing?

All this is on a 6.0 LS carburated engine. Thanks for any help guys.

2. No

3. Yes

Looks really close on the N20 plug.
I'd maybe pull a degree or 2 and see if it likes it.
How did it run?

Motor Pass was 1.56 60' 6.83 @ 107 (this tracks MPH traps are notoriously high)

Spray passes were 1.45 60' 6.36 @ 114 pulling 6 degrees
another identical pass

pulled 4 degrees and 1.44 60' 6.36 but MPH fell to 113.5

Converter is more of a N/A (PTC 8") flashes to 5600 on motor. it's dropping 700 RPM's on the shift on spray

FWIW the car was running low 6.70's on motor, but I had a MSD failure and ever since the new box has been put on the car hasn't ran quite as good. Had the same timing curve as old box but car slowed up 2/10...I pulled some timing and gained a tenth back but never have found other one lol

Looking at the nitrous plug I could see it slowing down with more timing in it.
Thats why I said try 1 or 2 out it might like it.
Its a clean plug with about as much timing on it as I like to see.
Could maybe try a touch of fuel also to see if it likes it.

I will try that, I appreciate the info.

Should I add fuel by jet or pressure?

And one more ? Let's say I pull 2 more degrees and it likes it. That will be 8 degrees retarded from my NA tune. Is that normal on a 100 shot? Or is this just one of those every motor is different kinda things?

This is what has me wondering if my N/A tune has had too much timing for a while now.

Yes add 1/4-1/2lb pressure.

25* is a little high for a tune that clean.

Seems the carb'd motor guys always run more timing N/A than the EFI guys.
Not sure if they need it or they are just rich and use timing to burn the fuel off.

8 out of 343 is not alot. the total timing ends up being the number more meaningful. most FI guys run a 30 base so 25 would be 5 out. Im with ATV 25 sounds a hair high and the timing is on the edge. if the weather gets cold that tune could hurt the motor. I would try some ngk 7's and pull 2 degrees. also keep an eyeo on the plugs when the weather gets real good.

Generally speaking, are you guys looking for the timing mark to reside right at the curve on the strap?

The plug used on spray was a BR7 gapped .030" and pulled 6 degrees

I like to see it just on the tip.

At the curve is getting after it pretty good, the slightest weather change could hurt something that close to the edge.

Ahh, good thing I asked because I had it backwards, I was thinking closer to the tip = too much timing in the motor etc.. Thanks!

Ok. I was going off the description I can't see pics at work. a 7 should be cold enough for that setup.

Don't worry about how much your pulling. get the mark 1/8 from tip on a clean fuel ring. the base number being so high means you need to pull more on the spray.
