Default Noob Nitrous Questions

Ive very new to the LSx platform as I came from an 03 cobra and been a mustang guy until I bought this ws6. I have a bone stock 98 ws6 M6, minus a borla Catback and SLP lid. Im looking to keep it near stock for this year, but thought about adding LT's and a 150 plate kit from DynoTune with a set of darkstar Big/Littles. Realistically would the rear end hold a 150shot with DR's? And what times would I be looking at? Shooting for 11.xx close to stock with a shot. Is that doable?

Auto or manual? The auto is going to be more friendly on that crappy 10 bolt

It's really just a gamble man! Depends on how hard you drive it, launch, what kind of tires, etc...Take me for example: I make around 550 rwhp/rwtq, and i'm on the 10 bolt, but I don't beat the **** out of it either

It'll be at the track maybe 3 times a year....On the street from a low roll mostly.

Two things that really stress it...hard launches and wheelhop...limit that and it might last you a good long while

Lol the rear can't hold the stock motor with drag radials and hard launches. Good luck its really 50/50, but like they say hard launches/wheel hop are the top 2 contenders along side bad maintenence

Im an auto, so different story than m6 on the rear, but for reference, i have lid and catback, ran 13.6 at 105 before spray, drag radials and 100 shot netted me a 12.4 at 112. And im not good at launching really, best 60ft is 2.0x, so if u can drive a 150 and longtubes shud be 11.xx for sure. Be safe tho and pull timing and window\wot switch for sure.

I appreciate the info. I havent made any hits on the track yet, but I just found a moser 9" locally for 1200 ready to bolt in. So hopefully I wont have any issues hitting the 11's now lol

Seems to me that it can go two ways: I've seen stock 10 bolts that break on LS1's with just simple bolt-ons, but then I've seen on here guys making anywhere from 600 to 1000 rwhp on the stock 10 bolt and it seems to hold up like a champ. 50/50 chance; maybe you have one of the stronger ones. Only one way to find out.

With that, its dependent on the gear ratio in the rear. The lighter the gears the longer it will last because of the size of the pinion gear and the thickness of the ring gear.

As the numbers go up numerically the ring gear gets thicker but the pinion gets smaller so since the pinion is smaller the pinion will give way first since it doesn't have much metal to support the teeth on the pinion.

As the numbers go down the ring gear gets thinner and the pinion gets bigger so now it does just the opposite. The ring gear will tear up first since it has less metal to support the teeth.

3.23 3.42 are the better ones. I've been 10.40's on a 150 shot on 3.23 gears in a stock 10 bolt. Auto trans helped it live to that point though
