Default 347 n20 dome pistons or flat tops for 12.5.1 or more compression

What is better ? A flat top or dome. Looking to be at about 12.5.1 compression with 300 hp of spare at most. I have read alot already but just looking for other opinions

In this case, ask yourself what is more realistic. How would you even get to 12.5:1 without a dome?

Dome would obviously give you more compression. If you plan on spraying thats something to consider. The higher the compression the motor is, the smaller window your margin of error is for nitrous.

The compression isn't the issue , it is the quench that can make it timing sensitive. Talk with your engine builder about piston options and make sure to include whoever does your cylinders heads so they can get the chambers the right cc and soften them to keep quench where it needs to be. Ideally .080 - .100 is godd range to be in for a nitrous motor ,but, you can get away with less ,but, will be really timing sensitive.

You read my mind. That's a good amount of quench. I didn't know it was that high.

That is good for x275 or pro mod. With a run of the mill small block with 3-400 I'd cut that number down to around .050"-.060".

Yes that is why I said you can get away with less, but, it will be more timing sensitive. I bet our sbe ls1 was less than that and it was for sure timing sensitive. Only like 8-9 degrees total on a .036 jet fogger. We didn't check it because we had to work with what we had without flycutting anyway, so just put a 67cc head on it with stock mls gasket and let it ride. Most folks that spray ls like to run them overtimed because of richer tunueps so anything you can do to openthe tuning window is good for the average guy.

Heads are a 54cc chamber. May need so opening up. Unless there is a different way to go about this. If not flat top will be the best bet then. With a good relief cut
