Power difference between 5.3,5.7, and 6.0 150 shot
Hey guys, I have a 2004 GTO. Currently has ported heads, and cam, bolt on, and a T56. I have been flirting with some different idea's for awhile, but nitrous is my choice in power adder path. With this I expect at some point a break in something, or at the very least needing to freshen up or change an engine. So here is my plan on what builds I think would work, and I want some feed back from you guys.
I have some ls6 heads laying around, also an intake. I was planing on slapping this on a 5.3 and running 150-175 shot with some race gas mix. So basically a ls6 head and intake 5.3, with a cam and a 150-175 shot. Question is how much am i leaving out by using a 5.3 over a 5.7 or 6.0
I chose the 5.3 due to its availability, and price if one does go boom. 6.0's and 5.7's are just so damn pricey now around here. So let me know what you guys think! hoping for low 11's high 10's

In general displacement is a plus in any situation. No different with nitrous. You can make nearly as much peak power with a 5.3 if you spin it higher, but the torque and power under the curve will be less. In a heavy car like a GTO with a stick shift, this will be noticeable n/a for sure. In general I would guess that you will be giving up 2 to 3 tenths in the quarter mile maybe. But, 5.3s are plentiful and cheap, so fun per dollar is pretty damn good.

I personally would never run a 5.3 unless it was a turbo combo or a very light weight sub 2600 lbs car. In a GTO I would really go for at least a 6.0 or larger. On a budget try and come across a ls2 24x shortblock or longblock.
