Default ls1 150 shot with 3.42s or 3.73s ???

whats up guys, about to build a rear for my car and I have about a week or so to decide what gears I should do. I have a 98 bird A4, ls6 intake, kooks long tubes, no cats, and a yank 2800 stall and I am going to spray it with a 100-150 from time to time at the track, from what I understand is that nitrous likes a load so will a 3.42 gear be better for spray running a 275/50/15 vs a 3.73 running the same tire id appreciate any input thank you!

I'd think the 3.23 would be better for spray but since it's mainly a street car I'd still opt for the 3.73

Im spraying 100 shot wet. w/273 gears factory 245-50-16 #Firestonefirehawkindy500 tires. no stall, getting 1.8 60ft. times, getting 25mpg w/ac on
I would say 3.23 on A4, if done anything for a street car that plays on test and tune night. less stress on tranny, and carrier, prob get away without buying slicks or drag radial.
I had an ls1 with 4k stall and 3.73 gears and I hated it. wasn't a fan of a 3.73 3200 stall either.

absolutely 3.73. 3.73 with a 26" tire should still pull 130 mph through the traps at around 6500 rpm. That's a tight stall even with the 150 shot.

Thanks for the info it's a street strip car, I bracket race it so I won't be spraying it every time I'm at the track, I'm just looking for the best overall gain because I do drive it a lot on the street, I feel like the 3.73s would really wake it up on the street but I heard 3.73s with the 275-50-15 tires that I'm running might be to much gear for my set up I just want make the right decision

If you have 3.42's currently I would stick with that, and see how the car hooks up. We do also have nitrous progressors to help with tire spin, it allows you to ramp in the nitrous. I had a car with 3.73's (It was a standard though.) on 100-150 shot and it would spin a 28" tire pretty well.

3.73's all day. You have a small converter so the gear will help it.

Hey man it holds when it goes replace it then, I'm running a 10bolt as well, working on the next motor and when it's ready I'll order a 9inch and throw it in. Honestly I want to run the 10 bolt for now I wanna see how long it lasts

Exactly what I'm doing... building a nitrous sucking 408, but will go S60 and TH400 before I install it!!

Sounds good man! Let me know if you have any questions about it or anything else.

I'll pray for your 10 bolt. A progressor will help keep it alive though!

Thanks,
Garrett

It helps to have "DA-in-a-bottle"...I won't be happy until it is a 9 sec, full weight "show car"

those poor 10 bolts from the fbodys.. my buddy farted to hard and blew it out.. ssorry im off topic but anyone who can make serious ets and make them last is great.. ive worked on cars that had the 8.5 10 bolts go 8.20s in a 3400 lb car for 3 years before he had a problem!! I went 8.8 ford in my s10 because it was cheap and they swap in pretty easy!! good luck tho..
