100 shot. Stock bottom end. At what point are forged pistons needed?
So my car currently puts down around 440rwhp. I am loosely considering nitrous and am wondering that in the interest of absolute safety, at what point are forged pistons necessary for nitrous?
I only am looking at doing a 100 wet shot max. I've heard anecdotal stories of people spraying 150-200 shots on stock bottoms ends all day for years but can anyone who personaly has done this chime in?
This is a car i want to last forever (75k miles would be nice) and as long as I'm willing to invest in the proper safety equipment (WOT, window switch, FPSS, upgraded fuel pump, properly gapped colder plugs and pulled timing) but with this investment I would want the engine to be bullet proof for tens of thousands of miles. Are forged pistons necessary for this? The rest of the engine is built for strength but from what i hear it is the pistons that nitrous is especially hard on.

Not me personally but a very close friend did. He sprayed 150 for years on a stock bottom end with a gx5 cam. Then he sprayed a 200 shot and still didn't have any problems. Then he put a p1 on 7lbs with a 75 shot on it. Still no problems. Lol.
Did all of this with just tuning off a wideband, never pulled the first plug to check anything.

spraying a stock bottom 6.0 lq4 with a 300 shot on a standalone and c16... have sprayed at least 10 bottles through it already. timing is at 13 degrees on 9 plugs. this is on an extended cab by the way..

I have personally sprayed 100-150-200-250+HP on a stock bottom end LS1. Anything over 200hp is pushing it in most cases with the average racer but 200hp or less can be done easily.
This stock short block 01 Formula is about to get our 78mm plate system and will be getting hit with 200-250hp.

I ran a dozen or so bottles on a 200 shot on my 97. Car was a very basic setup... pasesetter headers and ORY, corsa catback, BTR 224 cam/springs/pushrods, founders tubular rear suspension parts and a TH350 with FTI off the shelf converter. 16" MT radials on stock wheels. good for 6.5's int he 1/8

Tune-up and proper accessories are alot of what make a nitrous setup live. We have sprayed 200hp on a bone stock C5 vette, and 250hp on a stock 5.3 with a nitrous cam, just as a couple examples. Both put down over 500 at the wheels. As mentioned above I don't think there is any problem with what you are wanting to do.

I ran a 150 shot, bottle a week through a 2001 SS before LS1 Edit existed. It can take it. I seriously had to drill a larger hole in the throttle body when installing the 224 cam so it would hold idle. With current tuning ability you'll be fine.

As long as your tune is good, you can spray 150-200HP with little to no problems. Just make sure your timing is good, you're running the proper spark plugs, and keep an eye on your AFR.

The timing curve on a Stock LS1 is fairly conservative. people have been spraying 100 shots on stock LS's for years...it's rather old news. once you start spraying 150 shot on up is when timing and correct heat range plugs play a big role in the longevity of a nitrous motor. I personally would pull a few degrees on a 100 but many have not and had no problems.

Haha, I see this thread still gets bumped. Well since I posted this, my build has changed. The MS4 cam and giant heads on the car now are coming off and I'm going with some Tony Mamo MMS 220 Heads and a 226/230 +3 cam specced by Tony. I'm having them milled to 60 CCs. So compression will be around 11.5 to 1.
As long as timing is pulled, is this higher compression a concern with smaller shots? (75-100).
