Default nos timing

hello everybody
Iam a newbee to the site and to ls1's
i am a traditional smallblock guy so the ls1 is new to me.
I bought a buddies 00 z28 w/ a z06 short block a custom comp cam
that i am not sure of the spec but are ruffly 611int 650 exh
the heads are 5.3 that are ported w/2.05 1.60 valves.
it also has a fast intake with a tnt power ring and ported tb.
i am wondering if someone makes something to retard timimg.
i want to spray a 200 shot.
or will this be ok with no timing changes

I would pull some timing with a 200 shot. You really only have two options for pulling timing when using a wet shot with the factory PCM. The first would be to pull a few degrees via a PCM editing application, like LS1 Edit or HP Tuners. The problem with that is you'll always only be running that timing map. If you want to run more timing NA and only pull it when you spray, then your only choice at the current time is a LS1 Timing Tuner. A few sponsors on this site sell them.

How large are the reliefs cut into the pistons!? That's a big cam with some small heads.

You'll have to see what your baseline timing is. probably need to go in the area of 22* or less with your 200shot, but logging/tuning is the way to find out.

i belive the pistons are stock. and i think he said he made the biggest cam
that would give him .040 clearance for piston to valve. and they use the smaller 5.3 heads because the ports are smaller so they can reshape them instead of just making them bigger.

.040" ??? That is INSANE and just asking for trouble. I'm surprised you haven't had a piston kiss a valve yet.

I would think that he would have to flycut. hell just driving when your engine is at operating temps would be clanking like hell. .080" on intake and .100" on exhaust is what i always run. Find out more specs for us and we can give you more info on the cam.

i am tring to put a list together for future reference.
the heads were cut and i was told it's 11.5 to 1 comp.
the car runs great it's tight reving, smooth, and the only noise is slight valve
train noise . it has the comp R roller lifters with 1.7 yellow terra rocker arms
and the fom is removed from under the intake.
