Default BIGGGG shot guys (400+)

What are you guys doing to keep your bottom ends alive? I am planning on running a single or dual stage progressive direct port on a forged bottom end and will be spraying around 350-450hp combined hit. (secondary fuel system of course ).

Im going progressive hit, so do i still have to worry as much about torque spike as a big dual stage? Will my stock ls1 block distort like crazy? Hell if I could get away with running the stock block and crank then I'd be doing the motor work this week (although i've never seen anyone successfully making 900rwhp or so on the stock crank on a n2o motor).

Or is it worth the money in terms of strength to just go bad dude and get an iron block with a fully forged crank (and in that case will the eagle hold the abuse)?

I figure this will probably be the easiest way to get me to my goals

Thanks for your inputs.

Nate

You should be fine with an alum block, forged crank, billet rods and nitrous pistons. The challenge is keeping the heads down at 400 and up.

I would get the block drilled for 1/2 head studs and get some aftermarket heads. If that is the size shot you want to run id go iron block.Big bore short stroke (stock) and spin the **** out of it.Cometic made some new o ring style head gaskets i just seen then this year at sema.Down side is there not reusable.Might wanna give them a call direct to get the low down.Good luck

Powell has a 408 with Wiseco pistons that we've put 400HP through 15+ times. No problems with the headgaskets or anything. He's got SCE Titan headgaskets, LS6 heads, and standard ARP head studs.

Sounds like im going 408 then. Did he have gas ported pistons? Im not sure of the benefits of a gas ported piston on a mainly street car that will see 150-200 shot most of the time and 400 when it's actually hooking.

What rods and crank? Heads? Compression? Cam? Times please? Can you give me some more details please? Thanks man.

His pistons have been gas-ported. He also has Hellfire rings. Lunati Crank, Lunati Pro-Billet Rods, MTI Stage III LS6 (Circa 2001) Heads, 11:1 Compression, 260/266 110 Solid-Roller Camshaft, 8.95 @ 151 @ 3200 lbs and a 1.43 60' time. That was actually only on a 300 shot too. I don't think we ever put his girly progressive over 75% on that pass.

Here's a link from Cold Fusion, as we are redoing our direct port page (has the EFI kits only at this time). These kits are good for upto 600+ hp and a bargain at $595, with high quality. We have plenty of pro guys running these kits. I am also trying to get a DP as one of my stages, but will be no where near the 400hp shot. Gutted the interior of my car today for my roll gage, and other upgrades coming. The 408 deals are great, and that is the way to go, imo, if going biggggg.

Are you going to an LS2 block, or staying LS1?
