When my car was backfiring it was dangerously lean, but you said the plugs were burnt so I assume you mean too rich? I think the car can misfire when its too rich????

I would bet that you broke a piston. Start the car, pull off the oil cap and see if it is puffing out the filler neck.

I say he burnt a valve. When I burnt a valve I had 3 plugs that the tips were melted.6,8,and 7 were melted. If your lucky you only burnt a valve and your rings are fine. You should have the car tuned for spray next time around.

put air in the cyl and see where the noise is. Pul the new plugs out and see which ones are not popping off.

thought that would be it. Been there, broke that. You might want to do a leak-down test & a compression test. I mine tested o.k with the leak down test so I put it back together. Seems now that I should have threw a set of rings in it.My compression readings are all over the place from as low as 170 to as high as 210. They should all be 210. I'm still making good power but it could be more. Make sure you get a timing tuner to retard your timing when your spray is on or have it tuned for spray so it dosent happen again.
