Default Z28 has a broke ***!

Suspicions confirmed after a phone call from Ellis... tore 2 teeth clean off the spider gears of that Eaton HD differential.

I know I ain't putting another one in there... one good hard launch on slicks screwed that sucker all up... hell the slicks didn't even stick, they spun and the damn thing still gave up. So I'm sitting here thinking... what would Sardog do? Hmmm... Man up and stick a locker in that sumbitch!

Of course, I'm not that extreme really... so I'm thinking I may go with the Auburn or Detroit electric locker if I can afford it. If the finances won't allow, I guess I'll just have to say f*ck it and do it the Sardog way... I suppose I can live with some clunking in the rear end if it means it won't break again.

Well I guess you already know what i would say

the detroit is not that bad. It defenatly takes some getting used to. Makes alot more noise on street tires than on slicks. I never ever noticed drivng on slicks.

One thing you will never have to worry about it again......trust me

The only thing I don't like about the electric lockers is it is one more thing you have to worry about breaking. It would really suck to be about 60ft out and have it unlock

Jason this is where it starts to get tough, Now comes the decisions that start to comprimise daily driver duty.........Just like your next step of a cage

But like you have already said you know what I would do

That's right, if I do things the Sardog way its gonna be a locker all the way... then some weight reduction, some bigger slicks, a hefty shot of nitrous and a nice truck to tool around town in instead of the Camaro.

That sucks about the spiders Jason, but at least by the time you have it together again it'll be stronger than ever. I keep wondering how long my 8.5" 10 bolt is gonna last .........

So is the 12 bolt a c-clip rear end? Meaning I wonder how close you came to having it pop an axle out on the road/track.....and you might consider the Trac Loc. Supposed to be about as good/strong as a locker without the issues. Talk to Ellis & Dan.

And I apologise sardog. I was going to call you but this little incident happened on the home front & I just now thought about it. Tomorrow?

The Rear end uses Ford bearings. Two Clean broken teeth alog with some other stuff. Jason should be getting a call from Dan tomorrow so they can deside on a direction to take

That'll be the moment of truth... continue to be equal parts street and strip, or start moving toward the mostly strip side.

And I'm actually kinda anxious to find out when you look at the clutch... I'm just hoping that it dragging didn't cause any damage to it.

One of the BIG compromises for daily driveability is the Sponh Torque arm. Man, I feel EVERY vibration of the 12 bolt through my butt. (so to speak)

Heh... I have so many rattles and vibrations I'd hardly notice a change in torque arms. I'm sure I'd notice a locker though... that's really gonna effect how I view the streetability of the car.

Yeah, with a locker you can expext everytime you go around a corner the cops will notice you. I still remember the time I got pulled over for squealing my tires going around a corner at 5mph. I told him about the square spider gears I was running and popped my hood & showed him the monster I had, and he let me go.

Well, I'm definitely leading toward locker at this point... I do believe that Detroit Locker is the one that Moser uses now as their locker of choice. Also, I'm thinking the 4.30 gears will be the ring & pinion choice as well, since I'll be switching to a 27" tire at some point...

That would be a good gear choice jason, I would also look into 4.56-4.90 with a 28 inch tall tire that is a great n/a combo

Eh... 12 bolt with a locker & c-clip eliminators, or 9" with a locker... it'll do the same thing. Except for the ease of gear changes, of course.

Ok... well, looks like a Detroit Locker and 4.30s for me. Got a call from Dan and Ellis, sounds like that's the best thing, so that's what they're gonna set up for me... I may not like it on the street too much, but at least I won't have to buy a new Eaton or Auburn diff after every race.
