It'll usually miss under moderate to heavy load but idle and start just fine.

Yes, if the rotor (or a piece of it) came apart, which is somewhat common also. A friend of mine had 3 of them do that within a period of about 18 months.

From reading your symptoms thread, I would say Optispark... Ellis has described to me what to look for when the Opti starts to go out on my C4, and what you describe sounds just like some of the symptoms he said to watch out for.

Both times mine went out the car would start and run just fine until the engine got good and heat-soaked then it would buck, backfire, and miss at mid-rpm's.

Last time it happened I drove from SE Kansas to Wichita Falls, TX that way. Nothing out there, middle of the night, it sucked. Like riding a horse.
