Funny how awesome it looks (and prolly was) from the commercial....but anyone ever drive or own an 84 Vette with Cross-Fire Injection and that "lovely" 4+3 manual trans? Anything but a technological marvel.
I didn't have one but know several people that did.....the 3 letters that most frequently are associated with them are P O S.
Sweet find on the commercial though Poik.

This cracked me up........ "the tires are independently engineered for EACH corner" ........... And what's up with the welding gloves for the driver? Are those required because the car is so damn HOT lol...?
Gotta love the 80's strictly for the uber cheezy commericials....

If it weren't for the 84 vette we would not have any of the things we have today. First the tires WERE a huge improvement. The chassis was engineered to them. That is a true fact. The handling of these cars were second to none. Ferrari and Porsche could not compete with it. This car led into the TPI which led to the LT5. If it weren't for the LT5 then the LT1 and LS1 would not have happened when and the way they did. All thanks the C4! I remember the first time I say one in high school. Still love them to this day. For those that say they are a POS I beg to differ. Sure, I wouldn't own a CFI but the TPI is another story. Sure the 4+3 sucks but the ZF-6 rocks. For those of you who were driving then and call it crap I would love to know what you were driving then. Real ****.

You know, I thought C4s were kind of turdly until I owned one... I really liked that car, it's just too bad the engine was crap. It would have made a decent project car, but I couldn't afford to modify it AND the Camaro...
I wish I didn't have to sell it though... But I needed a reliable daily that I didn't have to pour money into just to get it to run right.
But I will say... I really liked the digital dash readouts, I really enjoyed the seating (felt more like a cockpit than any car I've ever had), and the car did handle like it was on rails.
If I could get a decent C4 that was in good running shape and was a good base platform for building (the car I had really wasn't) I would probably own one of those instead of my Camaro.

Well cars of the sixties are really crap when compared to todays cars. Anything can be made to go fast and handle great but as they were straight from the factory the 80's cars like the vette and fbody were better overall cars than those everyone drools over from the 60's just not as cool in most peoples minds. The cross fire lived only one year in the C4 and then everything started to change with the TPI's. The 85 was the first 150mph corvette ever. The fbody was well into the 140's. One of the best road racing setups was a C4 with a TPI and 6sp. These were preferred over the LT1 when it came out because of the low end torque coming out of the corners. If you go back and look, STOCK numbers for a TPI vette and LT1 fbody where the same. The LT4 would actually hand the LS1 its *** when the LS1 came out. See the cycle here? Eventually, the LS2 will be better straight off the showroom floor than the LS6 but it has not happened yet. Makes you wonder what is coming next when the blown LS7 hits the streets. 450hp LS2's? The future does look bright. Then in 20yrs we will be talking about how the C5 was **** compared to what is available at that time. But all thanks has to go back to those "thrashy" 80's cars and early computers that got us here.

Thirdgens now a days have a bad rap, but if you go back to read the articles from when they were new. 1982 Motortrend Cart of the Year was the Camaro. The Camaro, Firebird, and Corvette where THE car to have back in the early 80s. GM sold nearly 400,000 Camaro and Firebirds in 1984 (261,591 Camaros and 128,304 Firebirds). That is more 1984 Camaros then 98-02 Camaros. Just some good for thought...

They still are a hell of a car... I would love to buy like a '91 auto (last year of the TPI cars) and do an SBC build up on one. It'd make for a fairly cheap, fairly lightweight platform... and it'd still look good and have enough modern amenities (a/c, power acc., etc) to keep me happy while driving it on the street.
More and more, I'm wondering if I should do something like that... the LSx series is just so damn expensive to mod compared to SBCs.
