Default Hummer more enviromentally friendly than a Prius?

http://clubs.ccsu.edu/recorder/edito...asp?NewsID=188

Saw this and thought some of you guys on here that drive H2's would get a kick out of it. Next time you catch a finger from one of them in their Prius, ask them where their battery came from and what they plan on doing with it when it runs out.

One of my neighbor's has two!! And they are their only vehicles. I always thought he was a tool bag. And his kids are pretty slow.........if you know what I mean.

I think the intentions were there when they bought them, but it fun to laugh about.

I should print this out and tape it to their door.

that's about right,

they get less highway mpg than a diesel VW
and cost $3-10K more (depending on model)
as well as having less than half the torque

That's interesting, only I wonder where they're getting the 100k vs 300k miles total life from. I bet you could get more life from the prius(maybe noone really knows about the long term on these heaps) and I doubt you'll see a hummer still rolling with 300k on the clock.

I always did question the impact all the batteries from "eco cars" would have, but damn that plant is bad. It's all a sales pitch though, save some gas money if you'd like, but in reality the pollution from cars in only a very small fraction of the problem. Plus the whole oil reserve thing seems like complete bs just to boost prices and give the gas companies record profits year after year. I know it's not an infinite resource, but there's plenty for me and probably my kids too, but hey we'll all be flying around on hydrogen by then right.

In the end I get a kick out of seeing fools go out of their way to "save the environment" on their way to work, and give em a good smoky burnout for their efforts.

I would not be so sure We do 90s Suburbans(90s equivlant) The last three had over 200k and that little 350 was still ripping away

Hell yeah, the old S-10 I had, had 270,000 miles on it when Wisby finally sold it.
The last truck I got rid of had 260,000 miles on it.
The both ran very well.

They're saying Hummer which I would think of as H1 not H2 they need to be more specific. And the 100k is the assumed replacement term of the batteries although when I worked at Toyota they had yet to need to replace a battery on any year prius.

Have the Prius' been available for 10 years yet?

*Supposing 10,000 miles per year.

There's lots of 01 prius' with well over 100k on them already. People like to drive them cross country because of the gas mileage a lot. One of the guys I worked with had one that did just that and had over 130k on his without any trouble.

"Most" batteries are good for about 200 charge cycles.

Interesting you brought this up, my Grandmother has a 06' Prius w? all options and I have a uncle with a new diesel VW (think a Jetta). The Jetta will get high 40 mpg consistantly and no problems as of yet. My grandmother has been lucky if she got 38mpg out of hers, she says usually she gets 35, 38 was most she has ever seen. The real kicker for her though is the price she paid, she paid 42K for this thing with every damned warranty and option you could get the thing with, than this winter she finds out its not the best thing in the snow either. My little old Probe rivals with her Prius on mileage and on the HWY so does my GTP.

Overhyped is what they really are imo. You see people like Al Gore driving them, but he is on his way to his personal Jet to fly cross country and burn up more fuel than we all will over the next year with our cars.

One thing that that article does not mention is the disposal hazards associated with any hybrid battery...

Exactly. Not to mention the replacement cost of the battery pack at ~ $3500.
