Thats the one im looking at getting... Im gonna opt for the forged pistons and the better connecting rod bolts(for the N02)... So I need to do some research on the heads and intakes... and fuel delivery. I need some 30lb injectors, and im assuming a bigger pump and a FPR.

F that you go big or you go home. I dont want to see you with anything less than a 408 Windsor motor. That way when the old man comes out, you can smack him around like the rest of us.

Is this better?
I wouldnt mind going with the 351 but it would end up being a lot more money, since I would need a new oil pan and flywheel and harmonic damper and **** like that. However if im gonna dump a bunch of money into the project then I might as well do it right... And the TKO should bolt right up with the mcleod bellhousing I have...

Put a LS1 in it if you are going to spend all the money (Seriously). If you want to stay cheap, throw some good used heads/cam (edelbrock/TFS/etc) on your stock motor. That is all that one on eBay is anyway. Good luck.
Take the money you saved and put a 25.5 chassis in your car for safety while your weekend drag racing your street car.

Why put an LS1 in it when that 5.8 will be making more power? Plus its cheaper...
Not to mention that the 5.8 will basically bolt right in. As far as modding the 302... Its got a lot of miles and I dont want to pour money into a motor just to blow it up.

460 bhp seems optimistic with that little cam, but that aside, you're still going to have to change your headers, intake manifold, and distributor at a minimum to go with the taller block. Not to mention your accessories are going to be farther apart then (not huge deal). Considering all this it might now be as cheap as you think. LS1 is crazy light too which is free ET and will help compensate for the funnycar spec roll cage you will have to install (A must for any car at the track). Good luck on whatever you decide to do.

I wouldnt do either one of those to be honest. Buying an engine on Ebay for that kind of money AND the place being so far away is just too scary. What kind of power are you looking for and how much money are you thinking of spending?
If your wanting 500 hp or less there are way less expensive and less frustrating ways to go than buying an Ebay motor or bolting in an LS1.

Im looking to run upwards of 400hp... Cheaper is better, but Id like to have something that will last for a while and can handle a good beating.
I like the idea of the crate engine because it has a year or two warranty... With a crate and a rebuilt rearend, then I would basically have a brand new car...

400 to the wheels? WITH nitrous? That is way easy, man. Good used aftermarket heads/cam/intake, a 255 fuel pump, and a 150 shot will get you well north of 400 rwhp. When I first bought my car, like 8 years ago, it was bone stock save for headers and exhaust. I put a Walbro 255 in it and a Zex dry kit. With a 73 rwhp shot it made 302 rwhp/420 rwtq. You could pretty much attain your goal with a stock LONG block and nitrous pretty safely.
Your stock short block is way stronger than your giving it credit for. It will live with those mods I mentioned for a VERY long time with a good tune. In fact I would rather have a bone stock short block than a stock Ford block full of expensive internals.

Also I doubt anybody is going to warranty a motor that has been sprayed on.

Matter of fact I made 480 hp and 539 ft lbs at the wheels with a stock long block and 14 lbs of boost with a turbo. I know thats pushing it a little but this block has been running with this tune for going on 3 years now. I have seen stock short blocks with a set of el cheapo GT40 heads or equivalent and an intake with a $1500 used Votech S-trim make over 400 to the wheels and live long happy lives.
The key is to not get greedy and have a safe tune.
