Default New shortblock suggestions??

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...48#post7296448

Going to a new shortblock setup. I had figured 427 all the way but after talking to few builders I'm seriously considering the LSX instead of a resleeved LS2 and going with something bigger like a 440, 454 or it was actualy suggested something like a 468 which seems crazy!! I don't want to to a crazy different top end setup or a finicky driver....

Part of me thinks just do a 346 turbo setup or a 370 iron block turbo but everyone with FI seems to have tuning issues etc.

Part of me thinks 454 even if my top end is choking it I could always upgrade in the future...what do you guys think???

Cubic inchs always rule. You can have a mellow cam like a LPE GT11 and still have huge power and Torque. Torque is what makes them easy to drive and less finicky I think a 454 would be very nice! No need to rev it to the moon with a peaky cam to get a ton of power

Thanks Ellis, I may even go bigger depending on the heads. With the capibilities of the LS7 intake in the future I may have to change out the heads to get one. Just don't know if my TEA's with the 4.125 bore are worth anything these days even though I know that had to be one of the main reasons I put down 500 to the wheels with a little cam and a 388.....

A 454 is literally 250 more than the 427 and I don't think a 468 is anything more....just have to wait longer for the pistons to show up

If ya have deep pockets, then yes the LSX is the way to go. Another alternative is the 427 l92. I almost went that route, however, I can get the same power from an iron 408 for a whole lot less $$, but still going to be in the 10K range before all is said and done.

I just read your other post and see you may be spraying, well the extra head studs on the LSX is a win win all around for keeping the heads down. The main reason I decided on an Iron 408 is the fact that I plan on spraying big and with the iron block nothing is going to be moving around at mega clyinder pressures, and it'll hold 1000rwhp, also going with the ARP L19 studs to keep the heads down, the best route outside the LSX block.

LOL,, not sure what I'm doing for a motor....... ?

Bobby, I think you're intake will be a restriction long before your heads will. You'll probably want to eventually step up to a FAST for those kind of cubes.....

Well I'm doing the LME 454 LSX, ordered it this morning. You know the shortblock itself isn't all that bad its all the rest of the crap that is going to kill I'm going to have like 10k into this when its all done. That 347 turbo buildup isn't sounding so ridculous now.

But the way I figure it is this I'll have as bulletproof set up as you can in this game, with plenty of power and decent manners....hopefully it all works out and I can get it going this summer!!!

Right on, cant wait to see the Camaro rocking the 454. We'll have to have our race hopefully/finaly. Is it going to be a nitrous breathing beast?

Great choice, congrats, and LME is the best, that's where my short block came from. To bad you didn't still have the vette...

Guess I made the right choice with the 1 7/8 headers!

Poik - 10k give or take, just if I really would have thought about it there would be alot of setups but the NA big cubes I think will be my best bet especially with the heads I already have. With a 150 shot it should be fun. I told him I wanted at least 550rwhp and 500rwtq and the guy kinda laughed at me

Robert- I do miss the vette and actually looked at one before calling LME with the money. The SS is paid for though and is just about finished. I figure after I get over the engine and buying the new house I can't really afford I might buy another C5 as Daily driver, of course it will need headers and intake to improve gas mileage Or I could always buy a C5 Z06 or C6 and throw the LSx in it if I get bored and put the stock motor in the SS and sell it (it only has 23k miles on it)

Hey Mikey need a different cam? my 234/240 is for sale. Might work real good in that 388.

I'm gonna make a guess and say 4 weeks, anyone starting a pool? They're pretty good at getting them out on time.

Thanks, but for now I'm just going to use the cam that's in there (MTI X-1?). It's smallish but right now I just want to get the car RUNNING again and I have so many other things I need to get still... I'll upgrade the cam later.

I'm gonna say closer to 2 weeks for his new shortblock.

right on, was a remote chance but I thought I'd take a shot.
Still have the rockers too when you get that far.

Do you know somethng I dont know with the 2 week guess? 454 is nothing to laugh at, it should be a monster when he's done!

Hey Bobby, did you ever get the trans up to Ellis?

Last I heard, LME had all the parts in stock including the LSx block. They were predicting a week for assembly, so another week for delivery?

I have some stock rockers that should be fine with this low lift cam (.580"). Should be easy on valvesprings haha..

He's already got the trans back from Ellis and ready to install it next to an LSx block. I think all the other T56's in the neighborhood are severly jealous lol...........

Wow, LME took longer for my 347. Cool, he should have it in no time and post some pics
