Default Broken parts suck

This is my rant.

On Thursday I was doing some tuning on my red Volvo because I have megasquirt n spark on it now. So I gently put it into 2nd gear and roll into the throttle and then let off at 5k because it was pinging a little bit, and when I went to shift to 3rd the shifter was stuck in 2nd. I was able to force it out, and I thought that was weird, so I put it back in 2nd and floored it again to see if it would do the same thing. This time I had to pull over and really use both hands and a lot of strength to get it out of 2nd, and after I got it out I could no longer use 1st or 2nd gear. Luckily I have a tractor engine so I drove around for the rest of the day starting in 3rd. Hills kind of sucked though.

No biggie, I have a pile of spare transmissions stashed away just in case, so I pulled the broken one out and started swapping over my 740 model stuff to the new transmission that was out of a 240. I have almost everything swapped over and it's 9:15pm and I discover I need a 29mm socket. The Lowes a block away is closed, so I started back up in the morning.

Anyways, I get it back in the car on Friday afternoon and drive it down to Seattle, and all is good, even the overdrive works!

Cut to Saturday night, I wanted to try to do some tuning again, so I picked up my friend and we started doing some logging. So we weren't near anybody to see us so when this one light turned green I floored it and slammed 2nd gear, and as soon as I slammed 2nd the revs shot up, I could hear the back tire (singular) burning like hell and the car was pulling HARD to the left. At first I thought I somehow blew up the welded differential, but then I reasoned with myself that I managed to break an axle shaft.

So today I went and pulled 2 axle shafts from the junkyard, but I have no time to fix it because I need to be back in Bellingham tomorrow for school. Ugh.

Was that you I saw Sunday night by the Honda dealer on Aurora (twice in about 5 minutes)? Looked and sounded like Your Camaro but no black wheels.

Yeah that was me, I sold the wheels awhile ago. The car is filthy as well, I just started driving it Sunday and didn't have time to give it a good bath

Thanks, just got them last month! It's an '88 740. It started pouring rain so I didn't get finished. I still need to pull the cover and poke the broken off part out. I'll be changing the other axle as well because I'm guessing it will be twisted near the same spot. Dyno tuning Monday at school if everything works out and I'm just hoping for a better HP:weight ratio than the Camaro.

Nice. Lucky you it's not a 760 with the IRS diff! That would be a PITA and shocks for that car are $$$$$$$ and I don't believe there is ANY aftermarket for the rears on 760's.

There are some seriously FAST bricks out there.....B series is damn near bulletproof if built to support big boost.

There is a small aftermarket, you can get kits to convert from the auto leveling shocks to the standard ones that are a lot cheaper. Bullet proof is my plan for the one in progress, this one is just less of a ticking time bomb than it was before

Also I was playing around with the 2-step a little bit, you might be able to tell by the black soot mark on the pavement in the picture up there .

My camera is really really old and sucks, so it doesn't really show how messed up the splines are, but you can get an idea:

So I broke another transmission today. Got on the freeway and got on it, slammed 2nd, slammed 3rd and CRAGKRKEKRKERKRK said the transmission as all the gear teeth on the speed gear sheared off. Now it makes interesting noises driving around. Won't get to replace it until tomorrow after school because I have an exam to study for. Just throwing that out there.

Poik, I've seen a Camaro identical to yours in the Bonney Lake area a couple times in the last month.....

Have you been down south or do you have a clone?

Must be another one. I was down there a couple times at a client site in Sumner, but that was probably 2 months ago, been driving the Volvo recently.

Aaaaha,,,, that reminds me of my 240Z way back in the day. I went through 3 transmissions in that thing within about 9 months haha... Good times.

Good luck with the repairs.
