Default Anyone live in the Portland, Oregon area that can help me?

I know it's a lot to ask, but I'm stuck getting my #8 spark plug out. I've followed all the advice and even tried it from underneath the car. I have the air pipe and coil rail off and I can get a short rachet and 5/8 spark plug socket on it, but I can't get enough leverage to break it free. I've tried to get a cheater bar on the short rachet, but I only have two hands and the damn thing has hit the floor about a 100 times. All the other plugs are in and I don't want to drive around with a bad plug in #8 (which has never been changed no doubt). Any advice?

I am hundred miles away and I've GOT TO mow my lawn tomorrow. My advice is to relax, remove any belt buckle or other things that will scratch the car and kind of lay your body on top of the engine. As far back as you can. You can get your hand in a better postion. And then take your time. Let me know if this advice was worth a sh*t. Remember to put never seize on the plug threads and you won't have this problem again.

By the way, that would be laying on top of the engine from the front, stay off your fenders.

Thanks ghardester, but I've been laying across my engine all day trying to get that MF out. The neighbors thought I was road kill on the car, hehehehehe. One problem is that I'm a big guy (6'7") and my left arm is chewed to hell from trying to squeeze it back there. Replacing my rear axle bearings was easier than this!!! I'll continue trying, until they have to amputate my arm. Thanks for trying to help, I appreciate it!

I moved your thread here to the Northwest Members section where you should have posted this.

Anytime you're asking for local help, post it in your regional area section and not the General LSX Automobile Discussion section.

Peace,
Craig.

Try this....
Put the sparkplug socket on the spark plug then get whatever size socket that fits the end of the sparkplug socket. Worked for me.

Good luck.

99blancoSS, PM sent and thanks!

firehawk618, good idea, but it's a leverage issue for me. I'm 6' 7" and my arm is just to big, even with the air pipe and coil rail out of the way. I tried from underneath as well, but the stock manifolds and pipes on my 99 Z28 are in the way.

Thanks a lot Chris! You saved my bacon!! I hope to see you again sometime and check out your car. Now I have to figure out how to get the wires from the coil rail to the #8 plug. I tried with the rail off and on and the #8 wire is so short and my hand so big. Jeez, will it ever end, hehehehe. Tried to get one longer spark plug wire from the auto parts store, but of course they don't have the kind that fit LS1 coils. Well, I'll give it another go tomorrow and scar up my arm some more. But hey, thanks a lot, I'm getting closer to the end of this nightmare.

Oh man , didn even think about the wires. I was in a hurry. Put in on the plug first, then put the coil pack on and then put in on the coil. If you cant get it I'll come back out. I'll have more time tomorrow. I was crunched for time today.

Chris, I tried that, but it's the same old ham hand problem,. I can't even get close to starting the wire with the rail on, so I unbolted it again and tried to put the wire on by wiggling the rail around and still just not enough room for my big mitt and the rail . If I had one plug wire about 2" longer, I would never have this particular problem again. I hate to have you make that long trip a second time, but it may come to that. Next time I buy a Camaro, I'm ordering it from the Big & Tall dealership.
