Default First car vandalism/gas syphon?

Well go out to the driveway this morining and notice the car cover has been lifted in the rear. So I go check it out and sure enough the gas cap is off. I have no iudea if they syphoned gas or pured something in. There wasnt any residue on the fill neck but that doesnt mean I couldnt see it either.

Filled a police report already and I'm guessing I need to contact my home owners insurance and find out what they will pay for? I'm guessing the tank should come out and be checked and cleaned possibly?

Theres no battery in it so I have no idea how much gas is in or was in it but my wifes car which parks closer to the street seemed to be left untouched but her's is an 03 and mine is a 99. Do the 03's GM's have an anti syphon screen and the 99's dont? She has a full tank still and is way more vulnerable than my car but she didnt get home til after midnight so maybe it happened before?

this is going to be happening a whole lot more for sure. sons of batches anyway. Locking gas caps is a great retail area to be in right now, lol. Just like what happened in the 70's.

I tried to find a locker like 5 years ago and then dont make them for fbody's, unless someone came out with them. If it was syphoned I dont care, it having to pull the tank and clean it I dont want to deal with. Not sure what to do? Anyone have an optical scope ?

They had a thing on the news about the new cars with plastic tanks, there are just drilling through the sides and getting the gas that way.

soon as my car was vandalized by the ex's new hubby I invested in a locking gas cap. I feel pretty safe now. much recommended. got mine at schucks for cheap and 2 keys so one for each set of keys so I dont end up locking myself out of my gas tank. good luck, hope for the best. ~Guy

My 01 has a spring loaded check valve that makes it virtually impossible to siphon unless they had a VERY small hose. I took this off so I could siphon gas out. You can remove it from the inside if you pull on it hard enough.

Got matching locking gas caps for the wife and I...LOL Stant caps from Amazon. My warehouse was on backorder for them and due to demand had no idea when they would be in so I went retail on them.

Yeah i need to get one on both of our cars. Gas is just getting too expensive and they both seem to go through it faster than they should sitting over night. Although we still have to track down a leak in the grand prix. Can't fill it more than half a tank or it starts spilling out.

We've looked over everything save for pulling the tank, the shop even looked at it when they were doing the transmission and couldn't find anything.

Just FYI the plastic locking gas caps are a waste, all it takes in a common screw driver and they come off with ease.
