People were notified for the last shootout about two months in advance, which gave them plenty of time to get their cars around and gave us plenty of time to find replacements if our first choices couldn't make it.

The last shootout did have five cars that exceeded the noise limitations at some point, one of which was consistently over 100 dB and could not make any significant changes. We recognize that the acoustics of Englishtown's track layout can make a difference in dB readings when compared to someone's home track, which might be located out in the middle of an open field. Short of asking everyone to make a special trip to Englishtown just to make sure their car is quiet enough, there's not much that can be done to guarantee a reading at one track will be 100% accurate at another.

Having said that, if your car is over by a tick or two on the meter at E-town, it will help your case significantly if you happen to have your own dB meter as proof you even bothered to check before you came to New Jersey. If you think your car is borderline at your home track, assume it will be too far over at E-town. If you show up at the shootout with gutted cats and no muffler and go over on our meter, expect us to bid you farewell. We were fortunate at the last shootout that the police did not show up to take their own readings as they have been known to do in the past, just ask the Mustang guys.

All of the participants in the last shootout planned for a worst-case scenario and trailered their cars to the event. Following that logic, expect the police to show up at our next shootout to monitor the runs. If they do and we only have two cars that stay at or below 94 dB, we may end up with a two car shootout.

Hey Jim,

Is E-Town located next to a Retirement Home?

BTW, no thirdgens?

LOL

E-town is in a similar location to where GLD is located in Wisconsin. At one time, it was in the middle of nowhere, but as the Philly and NYC suburbs continued to expand outward(kinda like Milwaukee and Chicago are doing now), people moved close to the track, subdivisions were created and suddenly, the noise of a racetrack became an issue for the new residents.

Racers themselves are partly to blame for this development, because not enough of them voiced opposition to the ordinances. I'd like to see groups like SEMA take a more active role of informing auto enthusiasts of such legislation, but they don't seem willing to do that. Car people need the equivalent of the NRA, so we know which elected officials are in our corner on everything from noise ordinances to CAFE standards and crusher laws. We also need such an organization so these politicians will know there is a large group of informed enthusiasts, similar to the NRA, who can influence the outcome of an election. *steps down from soapbox*

As for the third gens, I asked about them too, but the point was raised (and I agree) that we don't want to use up all our shootout possibilities at once, so we'll try to keep thing in a more narrow focus. The shootouts have gone very well for MM&FF, to the point where they've done shootouts for their four and six cylinder cars. Who knows where our shootouts could lead? Any iron duke fans out there?

I didn't have a chance to read everything on here. My only question is this, if you have a full exhaust, with headers offroad and a stock catback that goes over the rearend and has tailpipes, can you have a cutout to keep it quiet as long as you race with the cutout closed?

You can have a cutout on the car, but exhaust must be rear-exiting for the shootout.

Jim and Johnny
Love the idea of this race.
I read the LT1 race.
If you ever need a token v6 guy who is kinda quick you can always contact me.
There is also a blown and juiced v6 camaro running 12.6 at 110 in northern jersey too.
Best of luck with this!!!!

A date has still not been set, but based on this year's shootout, it will likely happen in the later part of June
