Default SLP Grill Prep & Paint?

I bought a used SLP bowtie grill cheap, but it has a few places where the black paint is gone. I want to repaint, but I am unsure of what process I should use to strip the old paint? Should I use a paint stripper or sand it off? I am worried about using a paint stripper on plastic piece like the SLP grill. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thank you,

Dave

you dont hafta completely strip the old paint. just as long as you lay down enough color, all you relly need to do it make sure you build the chipped parts back up, and scuff the surface well.

Doneski, thanks for the advise. I ended up sanding with several grits up to a 1000, degreased/cleaned and shot with some fresh black paint. Looks great!

I wished I had thought to take before pics of the grill, but trust me, it was ugly. Here is the finished SLP bowtie grill:

typically sanding to 320 is enough for paint prep. post pics soon!

hehe, they look the best on NBM F-bodies!

BTW, I want to thank you! I used your write up as reference for my installation. It certainly helped to find all the fasteners for removal of the front fascia/bumper.

I just prepped the surface smooth again. I didn't completely remove the paint. However, I had mine professionally painted. Also had them use a flex additive. I did mine with a twist:

Thanks for the suggestion but I've never been a fan of the whistler. Polished, gleaming stock headlights look great to me, they sort of look like 2 huge jewels mounted up front and I like that!
