Default VHT trouble

Ok, so all my side markers turned out fine but the lower section of my brake light cracked so I sanded it back down and resprayed but it cracked again!

What could be causing this? It is really humid today, would that be the culprit?

Any suggestions appreciated.

i think that the vht has some kind of chemical reaction with the plastic that they make the 3rd brake lights with.. idk what the hell it is.

mine on my z28 did the same thing, along with the same on my friends 3rd brake light off his miata.

Didn't happen to me when I was paintin mine. They turned out great. Required very little sanding and buffing. Bad paint is normally evidence of bad prep work. Did you scuff them and wipe them down with something along the lines of isopropoyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol)?

There are many people that have had the exact same problem. Prepped correctly, cracked... tried again, cracked. Only the third brake light!

Same here. Sprayed my tails and 3rd on my Camaro, the 3rd spider cracked like crazy and looked like crap. Sanded it, and sprayed it again with lighter strokes and a little more drying time between coats and it didn't spider crack again. Came out acceptable enough aside from the sanding marks showing through a little.

I may get an LED one later and VHT it.

Yeah I wet sanded it with 400 and 1000 grit then cleaned it with an alcohol prep pad. Did the same thing with my side markers and they came out just fine.

02 WS6, yup same here.

I actually ran into an issue with my clear coming out dull on the side markers when I did it outside. Figured it was because of the humidity so I we sanded them down a bit, took em inside and hit them a few times on the stove with the stove fan on. They stayed glossy after that.

Still cracking with the 3rd brake light, may have to go back sand it down and hit it with VHT inside with no humidity.

I'm back in Philly now and not at my parents house where the car is so I'll have to post results when I do it.

I use that "bug off and tar removal" that comes in the black bottle that looks like a spray wax bottle. It works awesome and it sells at a lot of stores up here like autozone.

If it is some issue with the VHT and 3rd light plastic, what if you were to spray a coat of clear down first, before the VHT, to isolate them from each other? Then VHT and clear as normal?

Mine is already done so I can't try this, but just a thought.
