Default smoked lights? how?

just wondering how professionals do this. im trying to not use the VHT stuff as i feel i could get better results. i was thinking of either...

thin out some black basecoat with i guess.. a lot of reducer or something (this would be experimental, im more of a body man than a painter)

or

crank of the pressure on the gun, fan it out, and try to vaporize the black paint and evenly dust the lights with a fine spray

of course prep both properly, and finish with a ppg or something like that kinda clearcoat. i think i still have some leftover from the last time i did some paint work

I know a couple guys that have tinted the clear... It looks good, but the VHT and a good clear looks just as good, if not better.

usually I use any urethane clear coat and add black to it. Apply as many coats as necessary until desired shade. But be careful too many and over time the paint will crack

I would use VHT for tails, parking lights etc.

For headlights do what this man said on account of being able to spray it out of a gun. It will lay out much better than a rattle can.

VHT gives better results, you just have to take the time to wetsand them to a good shine. It takes forever, but great outcome

Personally I am going to disagree, there is no way you can spray a rattle can more even then a gun, the vht will spot like crazy. Plus when you turn your headlights you will see where you sprayed too close. On tails thats a different story on account of the red taillights.

I used the vht night shade myself on the girlfriends gto. I wetsanded it and then buffed it and looks factory. And it was rattle can.

Not everybody has access to a gun, and I've seen plenty of great jobs with rattlecans, it just takes more work

sorry i didnt catch the sticky. i've never actually posted in this specific forum and didnt expect that.

i think ill tint urethane clear.. especially since my front lights have to put up with bugs/rocks/rain drops that are haulin *** because the car is haulin *** etc.

the urethane clear is bound to be a 10x more durable finish, ive had really good results from it in the past.. and i do have a collection of sprayguns by now.

thx for the input guys.. im guessing i dont reduce the paint when i mix it up tho.. just clear and hardener plus unmolested black basecoat?

My bad, I thought the OP was talking about headlights.

But for my tails/rear running lights/ parking lights I used VHT too.

And the beater...

How about the bike??

lol, im addicted what can I say??

But imo if your going to do the headlights your best bet is to do it out of a gun on account of being able to lighten you mixture and spray it much more even. It is easy to get it even after 6 coats but if your want it light its much harder out of a can. Just IMO.
