Default LS1Bumper to LT1Bumper Conversion

Okay so I'm aware that you can do a LT1 to LS1 style bumper. But can you do the reverse. I've looked all over the internet for a "how to" but there isn't. I know that you need the LT1 fenders, bumper, hood and all the parts to mount it just like the LT1 to LS1 conversion. I have read that you may need a hood with a little more clearance, like the LT1 SS Hood or the LT1 Cowl hood. Because the LS1 engine is a little taller.
My question is has ANYONE done this before? I like the LS1bumper but I prefer the LT1 style bumper.

I'm not asking for anyones opinion on how the LT1 bumper looks. Please, all I want is if anyone has done this. And if they have, how its done.

I don't think anyone's done this before, but I would assume the installation would be the reverse of the LS1-style swap.

Thats what I thought originally. But I have read that the LS1 engine is taller than the LT1. So when you try to close the hood it wont close because of the air box. Any suggestions? Cold air intake?

The airbox is the problem. You would definitely need to go with a traditional cold-air intake, although an LT1 SS-style intake could probably be adapted to work if you got an LT1 SS hood.

So as far as we know its just the air box?

That should be it. I think the cowl is the same for both LT1 and LS1 cars, so as long as you take care of the airbox issue, you should be fine. You might want to swap to an LT1 radiator shroud to be on the safe side. It'll also clean up the engine bay.

OR could I put this without having to remove the airbox?

Unlikely. The cowl looks nice but you gotta remember that the underside of the hood still has the bracing across the front. I wonder if a K&N FIPK intake/filter would work...the one with the flat oval filter in place of the air box. Any LT1 guys try that? Good luck with that swap.

I think if you reuse the LT1 air intake elbow all the way down to the air filter, you won't have hood clearance issues. I've been wanting to see this done for years and years.

There was a thread where a guy did a rattle can satin black paint job on a camaro, it was a LS car with a LT front clip. No one really asked about how he got it to fit, all the questions were about the paint job.

It look like how people spray the berger panel but the whole car done that way.

Good luck on this one

This is 95greenz28's car, he swapped an LS1 into his car and is using the stock hood still.

VFN makes a stock hood out of fiberglass. It'd be neat to see you use that so you'd have a total sleeper that looks completely stock and unmodified.

The only problem with running an LT1 style intake on an LS1 car is that the LS1 cars have ABS and fuse blocks in the way.

It may be easier to go lt1 to ls1 look. I did lt1 -> ls1 and there are a lot more brackets.
you'll need:

1)L&R lt1 fenders (and the two brackets that connect the bumper to the fender
2) Lt1 hood (u can use the sunoco lt1 hood and leave your ls1 airbox, should clear)
3) you'll need the headlight bar from the lt1 which will support the front bumper as well.
bumper support from lt1 car w/ crash absorber
4) make sure you get all OEM, will fit a lot nicer.

Hasn't that been the big question here, Will the LT1 style hood clear the LS1 intake box/lid?? Looking at the LT1 car with LS1 above, there isn't much of anything sitting on top of the radiator. I'd want to know what kind of space is there. OP might want to look into a similar CAI to route to either the left or right depending on clearance. Relocating the battery to the spare tire well leaves a great place to put a cone filter and maybe even fab up an aluminum box or shielding to keep the under hood warm air away from it.
