Smile Fender alignment?

I did a couple searches and read through all of the stickeys but had no luck. I have noticed that on my car (and a few other fourth gen F-bodys) that there is a "gap" between the body and fender towards the bottom where it meets the door. Is there any adjustment that im not seeing or is there abbigger problem? Any help is greatly appreciated.

(not my car but this is what im talking about)

The flange on the bottom of the car where the fender bolts on may be bent outwards. It's flimsy and takes hits from debris. I'd check that out first.

also alot of people think that flange is a jacking point, ITS NOT!!! and will bend it, if its bent, there are 2 10mm bolts there, un bolt them and staighten the flange, and its best to heat the fender with a heat gun, (sometimes if the fender flange has been bent for a while, the fender will crack when u try to bolt it back up to the straighted flange and heating the fender will help with this) get good and warm but not too hot, if u dont have a heat gun, use a hairdryer, u may have to play with the location of the flange to get the gap right, I worked in the body shop of a Chevy dealer for 18yrs and seen this ALOT, If you have any more questions just ask.

Turned out the brackets were bent as others suggested. Pics of the car with pain are in my other thread "fresh paint on my 98 z28 vert"

Driving up on that piece of wood made the clearance a lot more easy, your pliers might not make it if you don't.

excellent call keith. Whenever you take your car to a shop for any repairs where the car has to be lifted, be sure to advise the Shop about this issue. Make sure they don't put the jack / lift on this flange ( some shops are more careful than others. ) If this flange gets bent too bad and you or the shop tries to correct it without doing it right... it will certainly crack causing a major issue with the bolt holes. Unless you are really handy with fiberglass, it could possibly require a new fender depending on how picky you are with the way your ride looks.

Good info,Thanks.
