SEM Hot Rod Black on my 68 LS1 LeMans...it's a pain to keep clean, but it does look good when it's clean...to me anyway...

Is it that Satin Black that comes from a certain tractor supply company and the name of the paint starts with B and ends with Z?

Yup! SEM Hot rod black is by far the best flat black, IMO. First time I saw it (SEM Hot rod black), did a triple take. Could not stop looking @ it. Was on a truck traveling w/ the Hot Rod Power tour.

i wouldnt be so sure about that, ive had my hot rod flatz painted for about a year and a half. it has sat in full florida sun all day everyday and the weather and i have yet to see any sort of anything paint wise. it looks just like the way i picked it up

if you go with a flat clear, be careful. if its not done perfect you cant really buff it out or wetsand it since you cant polish it. so if you get orange peel in it your screwed. thats why i opted out of getting it on my car

RONNIN, flat is not going to have a sheen at all, its well like its called, flat. satin is going to have a sort of sheen to where you cant seen a refection but you know that something is there.... it sounds confusing but these pictures help. and im whoring out my car haha

if you go with a flat clear,

1. Let me know what you think of your car in 4 to 5 years. It will chalk.

2. No such thing as "Flat Clear". You add flattener to your clear.

I just used a cheap primer sealer because I wasn't sure I wanted to keep it satin black & I needed to seal & prime anyway. It looks as good today as it did a year ago when I sprayed it but it mostly sees garage time. I liked it for a while but I'm glad I didn't spend the money to do it "right" since I'm tired of it already & planning something new. With all the fiberglass dust I work with in the garage it gets dirty fast & the fine particles of dust don't blow off or dust off like they would on a glossy surface & it gets annoying lol.

DuPont's Hot rod black is really nice. My boss' womans Nova is sprayed w/ it and it's awesome. Looks a lot like that T/A a few posts up.

use Rustoleum Profesional Grade Truck Bed Coating Black in a rattle can if you want a jet black flat finish without the chalky side effects. its gangsta. apply it gently and from a distance with a wafting motion so it just kind of lays down like a velvet.
