Question T-top seperator

So i'm going to paint that piece between my T -tops. Autozone has Dupli-color and Rust-Oleum paints. Which one would be the best to use. I am going to use Clear after the Black.

If you're just doing black, either one would be fine. When I did the T-top conversion on my old camaro I painted mine with rustoleum I think. It turned out nice. As long as you prep it first, it should turn out good either way.

I wrapped my with a piece of exterior vinyl. I am not confident in my paint skills, so i figured this is a nice temporary fix. I got enough vinyl from the sign shop to do the piece 5 times out of $10.

I've never heard of that. What kind of vinyl and how does it look? Does it shine?

Same vinyl they would do stripes in. Its exterior grade, 3-5 year expectancy. If a shop does and car graphics, they will have the vinyl.

Painting that bar isnt bad at all. the paint kinda self smooths, just don't spray it real close so there's no runs. just lightly scuff it with some 400 grit sand paper. Make sure to wash it first. The vinyl sounds light a cool idea though.

My original idea was to do some di-noc carbon fiber, but i could not find it locally and am really worried to screw up such expensive vinyl. I contacted some local graphic shops and no one has gotten back to me, so i did regular black.

Awesome. At least you can always peel it off and do the carbon fiber whenever you decide too.

OK so i did the rattle can, 5 coats of paint and then 4 coats of clear. It is drying now and looks kind of a dull white. I hope it looks better when it dries. I will try to buff it and see what it looks like then.

How long did this take you? I keep reading about people having success painting by themselves and have been considering doing some stuff like that myself too, just that I'm so scared to mess something up badly

So I am waiting for my T-top seperator to dry however.........I started to do the door trim on my Montero Sport and here is what it looks like today. Now remember this is the first time I have done anything like this. The piller on the left is what it looked like before i started, it is the rear door. The Piller on the right is the front door. The Vertical Post is almost done, I hit it with some 2000 wet sand and i want to get some 3000 to finish it. The top part the horizontal post is just after paint and you can see the orange peel look. I have let this paint dry for 2 weeks before I sanded it.
