Here's the deal, some of you may remember that when I bought my car the previous owner had vinyls all over the car and I had the dealership remove them. The problem is that there is some leftover residue, mostly on the bottoms of the doors from the feathers he had on the sides. You cant see it unless the car is really really dirty but you can feel where the stickers were which I always do when I wash the car obviously.

I was thinking about using Goo Gone / Goof Off (I think we have goof off at the house) to try removing the adhesive residue but I am worried that it will damage/strip the paint. I tried Googling it and it brought me to a Honda board and they said it's safe to use but I don't want to take their word on it. Anybody know if it will hurt the paint or is it safe to use?

Ive used it before and it did no damage to the paint.

Goo Gone is your friend. I used it to remove my side molding, it does not damage your paint.

I've used Goo Gone on paint before. No problems. You may want to clay bar afterwards if you still have some residuals left over that you can feel.

You could also try Xylene. You can get it at any hardware store. This is what a friend of mine, that does signs for a living, uses to remove lettering from cars and boats.

The above mentioned are ok. You can even use stronger solvent like MEK to remove scuffs (paint tranfer,etc).Just don,t rub too long or leave a solvent soaked wrag sitting on it. At worst from mek, you need a little minor buffing.
Goo gone is mainly toluene.

Ok so Goof Off on something like a cotton ball or small washcloth would be ok as long as i don't rub it super hard or leave it sit on it?

3m adhesive remover they sell it at any auto parts or auto body store cant beat it wont hurt the paint either i use it everyday in the body shop

You actually want it to sit for a min so it can do its work on the adhesive gunk before you start rubbing at it. Don't worry about it hurting the paint, it wont. I sprayed it directly on the car and after letting it sit for about 5 minutes, I sprayed it once more and then just used my finger to rub it off.

goo gone got yellow paint off my mothers ranger when she hit a pole lol. it was all done the side of the bed. you can't even tell now. works good.

A shop used this overkill plastic wrap around my engine bay while they were working on my car. When we pulled it off there was a f*%k-ton of residue left all over the front of my car. 3 car washes didn't get rid of it. Goo Gone took it off. Granted, I had to work at it for a while, but it worked. Didn't do a bit of harm to my paint.

I've used Goo Gone to remove Pimp Juice and VHT.. I always go to the car wash after using it though.

I used Goo Gone on my in-law's Ford Edge, the residue on rims was horrific.

WD-40 as well...what ever you choose, give it a good bath afterwards.
