Stress cracks??
Hey guys i was wondering if anybody has delt with this kind of cracking and spider webbing before and what the best fix would be... ive been to multiple body shops who just want to replace the cover for over 500 dollars....which ends up being over 1,300 dollars by the time its painted. but i did find a shop that is willing to do everything for 750...providing that i sand most of the old paint off to the best of my abilities (bad idea? i know to use 80 grit till i get the cracks out and work up to 850 wet sanding?) this includes repairing the chip/door dings with a thick paint and sand/buffing (will this look like crap?) as well as buffing the whole car. any input or ideas would be great! thanks

start with 180 grit not 80, just keep sanding until all the cracks are gone, you will go all the way down to bumper material before they are gone, ive seen it happen quite a bit on these bumpers, matter of fact my front bumper was spider cracked before i repainted my car

You can do it just sand off all the clear and color .get yourself a cheap da sander and a couple sanding blocks and go at it.Like frehwk says start with about 180 to 220 grit so you dont damage the plastic.

As said already, it should be fixable. The body shops just don't want to do all the work on it. It takes lots of sanding, usually to the plastic and then some. What I would do is take the front bumper off and spray paint stripper made for urethane bumpers to get most of the paint off. Then go at it with the DA sander where you can, then hand sand the rest. That's how I did my bumper. It turned out great.
