These cars left the plant with the original Z28 spoiler and hood on them, then went to SLP. They must have had a bunch of pre painted parts, hoods and spoilers, and just stuck them on. I think its pretty shitty really. Nothing we can do about it now though...LOL. I just had the back quarters painted on my car to fix some door dings. The dumb *** used cheap Sherwin Williams clear coat which has a yellow cast to it. Now in direct sun my car has 3 different colors on it. I am pissed. Found out from a friend at the paint store that he should have used PPG Deltron clear. He did use PPG Deltron base though.

I found a guy that is really good and is going to fix the car, repaint quarters, hood and spoiler to get it all matching again, may have to do some blending though.

At least now I know Im not the only one. I freaked out a little when I first Noticed the hood and thought my car had been wrecked. But I am another HOSS with a MUCH darked hood and spolier. Now I dont know if I want to repaint it.

It bugged me at first but so many people told me not to touch it, otherwise you have to blend it into the fenders, bumpers. IMO not worth it unless you want to repaint the whole car.

I don't know what it was like back in the day when these car first came out, but now a days ford has separate plants paint there bumpers, door handles, moldings, mirrors and scoops all. Alot of things can change a color. Air pressure, amount of coats, brand of gun, coats of clear etc.

I am plenty capable of doing my own paint work and have done better work in the past then the jack *** I let paint my quarter panels. I may buy a quart of PPG Deltron base/clear and repaint my spoiler to see if I can get it any closer. If it still does not match then oh well, but I think it will look better than it does now. If its better or matches then I will paint the hood and quarters and maybe blend the doors and bumper.

Here are some pics of mine, although it doesn't show up very well there is a definite difference in color from the hood/spoiler and the rest of the car when seeing it in person.

yup starts with the little spots and gets bigger. happened to my hood and spoiler. they didn't match the car to begin with and then all the clear peeled off.... got them painted last year and they actually match the car. SLP's paint is about like GM's 99+ sail panels that bubble from the glue...

My ground effects kit on my z28 are a little darker it's probably bc painting things at different times and environments along with not from the exact paint can make small differences not an expert just my 2cents

Yep this is normal. The actual color on my hood and spoiler match my body almost perfectly. But the paint on the hood and spoiler have virtually zero orangepeel, whereas the rest of the body does slightly.

Most cars from the factory have differences like that. Especially on the bumpers, take a look at some cars and youll see.

Now on the hood? Thats a different story

I know its an old thread but Im new and need to put my two cents in. I recently just bought a 99 Hoss shipped from New Mexico here to NY and my hood and spoiler doesn't match the rest of the car either. Before I did this search I was so pissed off and called back the seller and bitched about him lying to me about the car never having any paintwork done! Come to find out he wasn't lying lol. If bothers the hell out of me looking at that hood! For me having OCD its a hard pill to swallow. Also in the right light getting up close to both the hood and rear spoiler you can see the sandmarks just like a 15 yr old bodyshop apprentice prepped these pieces. WTF SLP!! I guess this color mismatch is real apparent on Hugger orange SS' compared to the other colors. What a damn shame
