I normally use just single stage automotive paint for engine bays since it makes touch ups easier

I like to use Epoxy, gives a nice off sheen, not flat, not gloss. Tough as nails when cured. Nothing will eat at it, fuel, brake fluid, etc.

Are you welding the holes? I'm also interested in doing this. Are you painting it body color or black?

That's what I used. Welded the holes then used a small bit of body filler to smooth it all out.
