Default Maaco???? need opinions......

well i have an unpainted front driver fender and ws9 hood. i was talking to a buddy of mine that works at maaco and said it cost about 100 bucks to get into the paint room so for about 250 he can paint the two of them.

but then says for another 150 bucks they can just repaint the whole car. im looking for something to look good and stay that way for a few years, cause im eventually gonna get a really good air brush/paint job.

what do you think? should i go there or not?

thanks
brandon

Stay away for sure. Just the materials alone are worth way more than $150.00. You get what you pay for.

yea another vote for stay away... they use the cheapest supplies and doo really shotty prep work if any... and their painters are usually crap.... iv seen probably 4-5 cars that have peeling problems or fading and big ole stone chips just within the first year alone... hes right when he says you get what you pay for...

Welcome, bud.

P.S. I just meant to ask around, and almost any place/car forum you research will tell you Maaco is notorious for shotty work. If you need a tractor/farm equipment painted, I ~might~ consider letting them do that, but not an automobile for sure.

One of my buddies had his car painted there. I think it looked better with the peeling clear coat. They did no prep work. He had to replace his front bumper, so he gave them one in good condition. The bumper he found was red and his car was blue. Now the paint has flaked off the bumper and the red is still glossy underneath. It also looks like they put school glitter in the paint. I runied one of my white polos when I leaned on the car too. The paint just rubbed right off, no clear coat.

are we talking about their $200-$300 paint job or a total "ambassador" paint job?

It does not really matter, honestly. I have seen both types, and neither one is impressive. Pretty shotty work, and it never fails to start flaking off after a few months, since they never prep scuff them properly(before painting).

If you speak of a paint job for less than a minimum of at least $2,000, you honestly can't expect much now days.

my friend is the one who will be painting his car...yes he works at macco. he did not want too but the money the guy was offering was to much to pass up. he is extremely good at body work and painting. so the car will be very well taken care of. its going to be painted at macco, but its not going to be a typical 10min spray down.
