I've taken apart my headlights 2x via putting them on in the oven. They didn't melt at all. As long they're only there for 20 min and temp is at 275 degrees.

If you smell rubber take them out! lol

You would have to have to leave them in there for awhile or have the oven waaay to hot.

I used a heat gun and oven. Oven actually works better, as you heat the entire thing. **** i was doing the same thing to Eclipses and Hondas in high school. The heat gun will melt the housing if left for too long. Oh and remember to ease them apart i cracked my first one being impatient. If the glue isn't quite melted enough put em back in, or use a butter knife to aid in the seperation.

I have done two f-body sets and no, neither have even looked like they were about to melt. Just watch them closely if you feel you have a super-oven.

Heres two links to doing the mod.

Link 1

Link 2

I'm actually in the middle of doing this mod. I put mine in the oven at 250 for 20min and it came right apart. I followed the first link cloest. I used steel wool to scuff up the chrome part I painted and it worked great.

Just don't put the head light directly onto the metal grids. I first put down a pizza pan then put down tin foil on top the two pieces of 2 by 4's and layed the light on top of that.

I've only got one done right now cause I havn't had time to do the other one, but it looks great.

What I recommend doing, which is what I did, is buy a seperate set of headlights and doing the mod on them and then putting them on your car. It's best to do it that way incase you end up not liking them you can just swap them back out and sell the modded ones. That way theirs also no down time on your car while the headlights are off and getting painted. I got my extra set for $40 and they were in great shape, theres a set in the FS area right now.

they wont melt as long as you follow instrcutions...as for tailights i believe they will definately melt, mine began to melt just from having blackout covers over them so im pretty sure an oven would melt them
