wet sanding VHT tails. I just painted my tail lights and they turned out pretty good...however they aren't very shiny as the stockers were, how do I go about wet sanding?
this is my first time painting anything car related so please explain it slowly lol...I managed to make it through the VHT process with the help of the guide.

Man i'm not too sure about rattle can, but if it was me i would clear them with automotiive clear and forget buffing. If you want to buff them i would sand with 2000 and buff with 5936 3m buffing compound with a black foam pad and the lowest setting on the buffer.

if you were to sand those lights and have them prepped ready for clear, i'm more than sure any painter around there would not mind shooting clear for like 20.00.

just use a water hose outside and set it so water barely comes out in a small steady stream, then work your way up in grit (i.e. 1500, 2000, 3000) until smooth but make suer not to break through all the layers of paint. Then use a buffer like a Porter Cable with a heavy duty swirl remover/compound and work your way up to a polish, then make sure and seal it to protect it.

yea, after the clearcoat sets jsut treat it like paint.
It was cold out, and I wanted to watch TV while wetsanding, so I did some in the sink, and some while pouring water from a cup over the tailight into a bucket sitting on the couch.
I don't know what I went up to in grit, but my PC took all the sanding marks out. And yes, put some sealent or wax on it.

I sanded them hours after I finished spraying clear (technically I should have waited a couple days for it to cure).
But yea, after you sand them you can technically wait as long as you want to polish
