Wrong forum, but fedex does suck. According to their policies they can leave your **** with random 'neighbors' and mark it as delivered. Then they expect you to figure out where it is and go get it (I just make them do it though). One day someone is going to go looking for their stuff and get shot or something, maybe at that point they might change their policies.

They damaged a shipment of mine and then sent me a letter in the mail saying they couldn't honor the claim because I didn't have the original packaging?? No body ever asked for the packaging any I still have it... So just bad business all the way around.. Cost me a decent amount of money.

I work for UPS and I only use FedEx after all the things I have seen.

Use insurance and delivery signature at all times with any shipper for your own protection on high dollar items.

I did use insurance and a direct signature was required. They dropped it, broke it and sent it back to me and told me to pound sand. Regardless if anyone thinks packaging is inadequate they damaged it. Just the same as if i had any one persons property in my possession and i damage it, i cant go blame t the owner for my mistake.

I understand your feelings on this, however, I don't think you would have had much better luck with either UPS or USPS. In fact, FedEx is probably the only shipper I've used that hasn't screwed something up, yet. I have no experience shipping an engine so I don't know what's considered adequate packaging. All I know is that I always package things as if it will be dropped or banged around, and the heavier it is, the more likely it is to happen.

Sorry to hear this happened to you and hopefully fedex steps up and offers you some assistance.

I've probably shipped 600-700 packages through FedEx and only had a single problem. They sent me a check within 2 weeks for the insured amount with no hassle. In my opinion, that's great service. I always insure the packages for at least their value (sometimes more) and package everything very well.

I dont believe any one is better than another. But fedex has just simply dropped the ball taking care of whats right and screwing the customer.

You're right, not every company is going to have a perfect success rate. There are an infinite number of variables. But, I do feel bad for the situation you are in and wouldn't wish that upon anyone. However, I do think that your packaging was a contribution to the damage. Everytime I pack something, I assume that it is going to be thrown off the back of a truck. It's a little more work up front for me, but the items I ship never get damaged. The only claim I ever had was for a small package that FedEx lost....and they paid me right away.

Shipping a block is better suited for freight on a pallet. However, if I was going to ship through FedEx ground, I would put it in a large plastic storage container and line it with multiple layers of blankets.

Just always assume for the worse treatment of the package, package accordingly, and you will probably never have a single issue. I ship blocks, transmissions, rear ends, seats, etc... Never a single issue.

^^^This guy right here uses so much packaging I don't think anything could ever get broken. I felt bad not shipping the packaging back knowing how much it prolly cost him
