Default Spec Super Twin P-trim

Category: Drivetrain
Price: $800
Part Fits: 2010+ Camaro, 93-02 Chevrolet Camaro, 93-02 Pontiac Firebird, Corvette, 04-06 Pontiac GTO
Location (State): TN
Item Condition: Used
Shipping Information: Item Can be Shipped
Engine: LS2/LS3/LS7/L92/LS9, LS1/LS6
LS Engine?: Fits LS Engine

I bought this this past winter/spring for when my car was coming back together so it only has about 3-4k miles. I think it goes for just under $1400 new (I just checked prices, but for some reason I thought it was closer to $1600... oh well). Great engagement! I will take $800+shipping.

Only selling because I am taking the plunge to an auto. Check my other threads for a possible package deal!

Don't let the used condition bother you... I'd still be running this thing if I wasn't swapping to an auto.

Is that a hot spot on the floater plate?

Also, do you have a part number? Spec shows two different part numbers for the p-trim between 04 and 05-06 GTOs

Not sure. I recall seeing a few "hot spots", but honestly, I have never been alarmed by them. I can check when I get home. All I ever check for are any deep scratches (didn't feel any) and clutch pad thickness (plenty!).

I went thought this same p/n dilemma when I was trying to find this one because I have a LS2 block and a T-56 Magnum, and I couldn't figure out the difference. I have worked on probably 10 GTOs (mixture of LS1 and LS2 cars), and they're all the same in the end >>> just measure your slave preload, shim if needed (this one was right on the money with SPEC's suggested distance - ~.120" IIRC), and you're good. Basically it doesn't matter LS-T56. Just think, that is why the same LS7 clutch kit is recommended for LS1 and LS2 cars, alike

This one was a p/n for a c5 or c6 vette... I can't even recall now, but it works great. It should bolt right up to any F-body, vette, or GTO without an issue.

Steel or aluminum flywheel? Also, would you measure the thickness of the clutch discs at the pad? Thanks

Steel. Don't think they offer an aluminum fw in this application.

All 4 clutch faces are somewhere between 1/16" - 5/64"

Keep in mind these measurements were taken with a machinist ruler because I can't find my calipers.

Is that measurement just of the clutch disc pad or the overall thickness of the pucks? I was asking for the overall thickness of the pucks on both discs. Sorry to be a PITA but Im quite leary about buying a used clutch.

This measurement is the individual heights of the clutch pad surface... the part that really matters. All of these measurements should be the same otherwise there is something out of kilter with the contacting faces. I'm not sure why the overall thickness of the pucks would be of any value since the thickness of the actual clutch material is the thing that matters; the overall thickness of the pucks includes the metal material that joins the clutch material.

I understand your concern. I ask for all sorts of information when I buy used parts too. If you're wanting quicker responses instead of asking a question every few days, I would be more than happy to discuss this over the phone.

Yes sir, I agree. However, Spec bases how much life is left on their clutch discs by the overall thickness of the clutch disc at the clutch material. As you stated, the measurement of both clutch contact surfaces and the metal disc they are joined to.

Over this past summer, my Spec 3+ started to shudder horrifically at full boost. I call Spec and they told me that once the disc on the 3+ gets down to about .325", its time to replace it. Sure enough, when I pulled it out and measured, I was at .327"

We can def talk over the phone. I will PM you my cell number.

Ahhhhh I wasn't aware you were basing this information off of a specification SPEC provided. This makes complete sense now. I thought you were just looking at how much friction surface was left. I will snag some calipers today and take some measurements.

Do you happen to have this same information for the super twin that I have?

Sounds good. Thanks

Sorry about that. I was about to PM you earlier and got distracted.

I only went to my place earlier for the first time since Friday and was only there long enough either time to just run in and out. Don't have any calipers there. I won't be back until Tuesday, but I will try to get some calipers before then.

Just so everyone knows, I measured the clutch pads from face-to-face. The disc on the pressure plate side was averaging around .351", and the disc on the flywheel side was averaging .352".
