I'll do my best to keep up with PM's, but you have a better chance of getting my attention with email at mkent930@gmail.com More pictures are available by request.

This is an ERL dry sleeved LS3 engine block originally built in 2010 for the ZZ Motorsports 427 2010 Camaro SS. It is the block only with main caps and no plugs, studs, bolts or bearings (cam bearings are still in the block). It had approximately 5000 street miles on it when I bought the car because of low oil pressure. I rebuilt it again at around 8000 miles on the ERL block. I drove it another 6000 miles last summer but knew the oil pressure was still too low for durability, so I yanked it to do a more in depth investigation.

What I found was a machining error on the main caps which created up to a 0.006" misalignment on one side of a couple of the main caps. The issue is on the cap side and not the block side from what I have measured.

I've taken the block to numerous reputable machine shops and contacted bearing manufacturers King and Mahle (Clevite). They're opinions after taking measurements and confirming the 0.006" was that the block shouldn't be used without new main caps being installed and sized properly to the block. ERL, on the other hand, accepted the block back, cleaned up the main bore, cleaned the block and inspected it before shipping it back to me. Their opinion is that this block is in good shape and that the main journal bores are not an issue, so maybe I'm just being overly critical of an insignificant flaw.

If you have cheap access to a good machine shop, this could be a bargain buy, otherwise you are looking at approximately $350-450 for a line bore on your new $400-500 billet caps from Katech. I had started to do a medium grit stone hone on one of the banks before I noticed the issue with the cap. I never finished honing the other cylinders, and they need it. I'd have a shop do it while the block is having the caps installed, if you go that route.

The bores were built at 4.1266 on this particular block by ERL, and it has been honed one other time (this was the second time I put new bearings in it in as many years). I measured 4.1276" on the #8. I believe ERL told me these sleeves could be taken out to 4.15 or 4.20" bore, but you'll want to confirm that with them.

The block is located in Oakland County, Michigan.

Here is a link to what you're looking at if you buy one new: http://www.erlperformance.com/gm-ls-...-block-sleeved

$2350 + $1450 core charge on the LS3 block.

I'll let this one go for $1600/OBO since there is some risk involved. I prefer it to be picked up, but do still have the shipping container from ERL, so I could ship it at buyer's expense.

The #1 main cap looks like it is set in backwards.

It is in this picture--nice observation! I had the caps off since I removed the studs and wasn't paying attention to direction when I temporarily placed them on the block for the pic. The caps will be wrapped individually and placed aside in the shipping container since no fasteners are included.
