different IWIS chains
IWIS makes several different timing chains that are compatible with the Gen III, IV & V GM V8 engines. We have not seen or tested what Hinson is buying so I can't tell you if it is the same or what is different. If someone has one I would be happy to measure all the differences and post pictures etc. We could possibly even get a failure test done (but then you wouldn't get your chain back ).
Not to hurt our own timing chain sales but, in our experience, torsional damper problems and other valvetrain issues tend to cause more timing chain failures than the chain itself not being up to the task.

The chain used in gen IV LS2 and up engines is made by Renold. Here is a link to another post I put up about this in another section. Look at post 10.

All IWIS chain is not the same either. The founder of Rollmaster/Romac Bob Brackum worked with Iwis to develop the chain that Rollmaster still uses today. One key component is Rollmaster IWIS chain is pre stretched in assemblies, meaning if the set is 60 links it is assembled then stretched. All chain is pre-stretched but in runs of chain that can be 100' long. This is part of the reason that Rollmaster sets last so long. I have sold and used the stuff for 19 years.
