Keep HP tuners or sell and gvet EFI live
Okay this is the rundown..I have had hp tuners for a few years now.I have tuned my car in SD and had a lot of fun with it,but it has always givin me connection problems, and i dont seem to get any answers as to why.It will work some days fine and other days wont connect.PLEASE dont try and give me tips,i have tried them all, tried a ton of serial cables and everything you may think i forgot to try.The real issue is HP tuners sent me an email yesterday saying that if i dont upgrade to the mvpi pro for 200 bucks in the next year, that i will no longer get any upgrades, services,or support from them..Pretty much i will be screwed if i want anything else from them.I was a little pissed about this so i am thinking of selling the hptuners and saying %$#^ them and getting efi live.Give me your thoughts, what would you do.I have the 98,2000,and 2002 models in hp tuners, along with EIO upgrade and a SD liscence.

Serial interface(which have not been sold since 2005) users were emailed regarding the end of SALES support.
This does not mean if you need to login to your account & lost your password we won't help you out, nor will it mean you will not receive free software updates, etc. It simply means that as of Sept. 30th 2009 which is a year from now we will not be offering new licenses, upgrade paths or repairs for these old interfaces.
In regards to your issues you are more then welcome to contact me at support and I should have no problem having you send your interface in for inspection & repairs if need be, you could also just upgrade to our MPVI hardware so that you are starting fresh.
If you have any questions about your options feel free to shoot me an email to bill at hptuners.com with a link to this thread so that I know what its in regards to.
Thanks,
Bill

i have both. EFI live sits in the corner of the shop and only gets used maybe 1 out of 30 cars that come through the doors...
if i was you i would upgrade to the USB interface.. its a lot better system, easy to connect to the new laptops, works perfectly with vista etc etc.. and you can then tune Gen 4 v8's which you cannot do with the serial cable.
i upgraded from the serial to the USB as soon as the USB became avaliable, it was the best move we have made.

i have tuned a lot of cars with my MPVI and the only time it gives me trouble is when the USB connector is a little dirty, a quick clean with some contact cleaner and all is good again.

its a nice simple upgrade for him to the USB interface and it is a cheap upgrade.. he gets to keep all his current licences and also will get on board data logging if he gets the pro version,

Those old serial boxes could be troublesome (I think I still have my CD for version 1.4). I found one USB to Serial adaptor that seemed to work with everything, but once the MPVI Pro came out it's been great. I even still use that adaptor for LT1 edit. Never had a problem with connectivity. Plus I perfer it HPTuners over EFILive, having used both, if you know one, you'll be able to navigate through the other, but if you're already familiar with one, why start the learning curve over again?

get HPTuners pro or whatever... USB it. I have EFI LIVE and "WISH" i had bought HPTuners.... as my vehicle selection that I own (and have bought) is immediately tune-able using HPTuners.
Now one thing I would like explained, those that bought the original HPTuners version, that was USB and that wasn't PRO (was their one??) what was the cost to upgrade to PRO?

Don't get me wrong, EFI LIVE I think is the shiznit, thats why I bought it in the first place, however
The current vehicle that I own (06 Malibu) are directly tune-able via HPTuners and it is "looking" cheaper (depending on upgrade costs) to have bought HPTuners BUT:

as that would prove my statement I made worthy or un-worthy, and as I haven't owned HPTuners I did not know if there was or what was the upgrade cost.
IF there was an upgrade cost, and it was the same or close to EFI LIVE, then I should shut up. LOL.
I'm having a friend tune my 06 malibu, so I guess in the end it doesn't matter as its cheaper than upgrading
