Does 02 sensor placement affect tuning?

Does 02 sensor placement affect tuning? I need some help with this.
My Headers on my c5 corvette had the bung locations in a spot where the 2 02's hit eachother, I capped them off and had a muffler shop weld me 2 bungs in.
The only way we could fit it was by having the two oxygen sensors pointed in at a angle 45 degrees. In this direction" > "
I did numerous mods at that time(cam, heads intake, headers) Since then ive had nothing but problems with the way my car runs.. (Wont idle, black smoke at idle etc)
Ive been back to the tuner twice with no luck. Im ready to change tuners and pay twice, But one last thing before I go, I want to know if the placement of these 02's will be ok.
