Default Re: setting the fan on-off limits

My opinion, not universally shared:

FAN1 ON 185F (ECT-10)
FAN1 OFF 180F (ECT-15)
FAN2 ON 200F (ECT+5)
FAN2 OFF 199F (ECT+4)

ECT is your normal thermostat-controlled
coolant temp, like you would see at easy
highway cruise. 194F stock.

With these settings your low speed fans will
run full time, the thermostat will set the
temp and hold it steady to 1-2 degrees, and the
high speed fans only kick in when you have too
much heat output for the airflow to remove.

If you don't like the low speed fans to run the
you could set them to (say) FAN1 ON ECT+5,
FAN1 OFF ECT +3 and then you would get by on
ram airflow cooling.

The main thins is, for tuning you want ECT to be
consistent so you can push spark and mixture to
the ping limit and have the ping limit stay put.

I like the lower coolant tank temp that full
time low speed fans enforces - there's more
thermal surge capacity for sudden high output,
not a bunch of 195F water trying to cool a
suddenly-220F cylinder head.
