Is it really gonna cost that much? Is there an alternative?

Default Is it really gonna cost that much? Is there an alternative?

Ok, so in mid February I'm installing Pacesetter LTs, TSP True Duals, 3.73s, removing my AIR, rear o2s, and EGR system. I have a lid and bellows(whooptie doo!). I've been told I'll NEED a tune in order for my car to run right at all. IF I could, I would just hold off for a while. So my friend Justin suggested PCM4less. The only problem is, I would be spending $250, plus $125 until I ship my core back, and then shipping. That's gonna be hard on my wallet after buying the 3.73s, LTs, and TDs. Not to mention, for that price I could buy a diablo sport predator(Can that tune out my EGR, AIR, Cats, and o2s though?). Are there any other cost effective solutions to getting this tune? Thanks.

Thats generally what its going to run you, unless you have a friend with HP Tuners or something similar who will cut you a break on it. Another option is finding a used HP Tuners and doing it yourself. That will prob be a little more in the short run, but it will save you tons of money in the long run.

I was looking into some used tuners. But that didn't answer my question about if it can tune out the things I need tuned out.

You should be able to drive it fine until a tune. It will get bad gas mileage, be throwing codes, running rich, and the speedo will be off because of the gears, but you should be able to drive it unless i missed something.

Seriously? Even without the EGR system? Someone said I would absolutely need a tune or it wouldn't really run right. LIke I could hurt something.

Auto or manual? If auto, the different gears will affect your shift points and converter lock up speeds. If manual, nothing will be truely affect for driving. The EGR only adds timing to your base timing, since it will be in closed loop, the O2s will keep it at 14.62 AFR. You will have Cat over temp kick in once in a while, but it will only run you 11.7 or so rich at WOT. Usually it will run around 12.5 while COT is on. You should be ok for a while, until you can afford the mail order tune. Or best bet would be to find a local or shop to tune on the street (or dyno). It would cost the same as the mail order.

Yea. I did my headers/EGR/AIR in September and didnt get a tune until mid December and it was doing just fine, aside from the things i mentioned in the other post. Just keep good gas in it and youll be fine.

I would recommend to get on a local car site, if you have one, and find someone with HPtuners to tune it for you. It would be a lot cheaper than a shop doing it.

Thanks guys. That's all I needed to know. I don't think I'm gonna go for 3.73s right now after reading the install guide. However, I'm gonna go ahead and go with the mail in. Thanks again.

hey man, there are some guys in the little rock area who could prolly give you a tune cheap, if not I got a mail order from Jesse at wait4me

I have a cammed car and he still made it run ok. Power is low IMO and I don't have a stall so I kinda have to fight that, but its cheaper and better than a POS handheld tuner...I just literally tried one of those on my little brothers truck about an hour ago...basically paying $350-450 to adjust shift points and delete a rev limiter

you can get a pcm from Jesse for $160, then if you want sell your old one. I got $100 for mine

eventually I will get a dyno tune as soon as I can get a stall and ls6 intake to optimize everything and get the power I want, but for now I'm just happy I can drive me car cause I was too broke for tuning after the swap
