Default Weird problem, need some insight please.

Here is the problem, car is just a bolt on automatic car, headers, cutout, fast 78, lid, stall, tune etc. Idles nice and steady when there is a filter in the car, I've removed the filter (K&n) a couple times because I want to run a custom ram air and at the track I was assuming I would pull the filter out. When I do this the car basically starts to sound like I have a cam in it, still runs fine at WOT but at idle it's rough. If I unplug the maf while the filter is out it idles fine again. Anybody have this problem? I could have swore that people have ran without a filter at the track. Bad maf?

Sounds like you've got too much oil on the filter, and it was tuned like that. When you remove the filter, it screws up to MAF input. Wash the filter out good, and oil it lightly, then see if it runs like it does without the filter in it, with the filter in it.

Better yet, throw it away and put a paper filter back in it.

Gonna buy a new filter, don't like what I've read on the k&n.

MAF tables are probably just borderline functional with the filter and pulling it pushes it error over the limit. You're likely to have one of those tunes where it's just a PE and timing adjustment and no MAF or VE calibration.
