Default Girlfriends 95 3.4 V6

Girlfriends Pea Green Firebird is running like ****, just replaced the plugs and wires. car has been sitting for 2-3 months in cold weather so I put a bottle of heat in the gas tank. But it still smells really rich and wants to die when shifted into reverse. The thing is, car is not showing a check engine light. And my scan tool can not connect to the car to pull any codes or read any stats. Anyone have any idea what could be up?

I wish I knew, the dang thing says connecting when I plug it in..and I wait and wait and wait..Then the screen flashes and says "Can not connect" I can go plug it into my 97 Comp Ta right after and it connects just fine. So its something with the car. That's for sure

Its common on those for the vacuum hose that connects the MAP sensor to the intake manifold to burn through. And it being speed density it will cause it to do some screwy things. Might check that out.

Scanner manual said OBD1/11 Compatible. I hooked it up when we first got it and It was able to give read outs just fine.

Is the battery holding a good charge, the scanner may have problems connecting with low voltage. Try it with the engine running.

i imagine you could get a used one somewhere.
might not hurt to take it to the dealership and get their thoughts on it. let them estimate the repairs, then maybe do them yourself if it isn't too complicated.
