Default HP Tuners Noob....ecu questions

I'll try to make this as short (and hopefully to-the-point) as possible. I'm really pretty-much lost right now.

Here's what I have:

1996 Firebird....swapping to a Turbo 5.3 using 2000 Firebird harnesses and 2000 truck ecu......4l80e conversion is being put together as well.

Here's where I need to be:

ECU reading correct vin# and vehicle information (ie Firebird, as opposed to truck) when the local DEQ hooks up to scan for emissions....as well as 4l80e shift tables....and real-time tuning ability. Lastly, I need to make all this happen using as few HPTuner Credits as possible. WHew!! I know it might sound like a lot to ask, but I'm needing to know the best way to make all of this happen.....even if it means sending the ECU out somewhere to have the mods done.

Thanks for any help!

Your going to loose your 96 vin as far as I can tell, theres no way around it off the top of my head with our software.

If that's the case, I suppose that the DEQ would just treat the car as if it had simply had a defective ecu replaced. So, as far as everything else that I need to have done....what are my best options?

Looks like 4 credits (2 - license the ECM, 2 - RTT). Then have someone do a segment swap for the 4L80E, usually a freebie. The HP tuners site may be a better place to ask these kind of questions.

Personally I would have the pcm flashed to a valid 00 Fbody vin/os pair via tech 2 then reread with our software & go from there. I have no clue how the DEQ would treat your car.

Flash it as a 2000 firebird or a 2000 truck, with a 4l80, tune it, and be happy with the tune, and then when emissions time comes, have somebody with efilive, convert the vin to your 96 vin, and you will be good to go.

According to my local GM dealership, GM does not "support" this kind of mod any more (too many wasted ecms), and hence are not equipped to do it....so no dice there. I can provide a valid vin # for a 2000 auto-trans Firebird (I work for a dismantling facility), but would need to have the 4l80e parameters added in.....not sure how to go about this now. Oddly enough, finding a true 2000 firebird ecu seems to be a bit difficult.

support at hptuners.com can do transmission segment swaps for you so that shouldn't be an issue.

contact wait4me, I am sure he can program a pcm for a 2000 firebird vin, without issue.

Thanks for the lead. I'll check with him, and see what he can do.
